Carkoon Wave Found

Ithaca Wal-Mart.  There were 2 cases, at least, on the shelf tonight.  A few had sold by the time I got there though.  Picked up Leia Boushh and Han.  Han came with a Yoda holograph and Leia with Obi-Wan.  I actually like the Yoda better than the Han figure!

The Carbonite block is kind of cool and if you hit the back of it with a flashlight it really lights up.  Nice piece and there's so much space in the back I'm sure it'll be just a matter of time before some customizers install an led and battery pack in one.  Han has kind of a goofy look on his face and his
expression makes more sense if you pose him hanging off your skiff rescuing Lando.

Leia is a nice figure though.  The outfit is really well detailed, plenty of articulation although the elbows are just swivels and not hinged.  The helmet looks great and fits well.  Her face sculpt isn't the best and they tried to capture the loose hair hanging down her face...but it looks more like a beard and it's kind of odd.  The thermal detonator is removable and has a peg.  This is one figure where a peg/magnet combo and a metal detonator would have totally thrown the figure over the top...oh, well.

I really dig the stands.  They have the ROTJ logo on the top with 1 foot peg and the character name on the front.  They'll look slick standing in your display case or on your desk.  Too bad Han's stand doesn't have a place to stand up the Carbonite block, though.  The block can't stand on its own.

The Wal-Mart price: $5.88.  I passed on the other figs in the wave and I really have no intention of buying them anyway.  Fett looks okay for a kit-bashed figure with new paint.  Barada actually looks great with the new paint but I never thought the Cinema Scene version was that bad.  Bib?  Eh. Chewy, already got him.

By the way, variants on these figs already.  Boba Fett packed with the flame either in front of him or behind in the package...behind is the update.  Chewy has his chain affixed to his collar either with a big ring or a small link in the chain. The small link is the update.  Supposedly there is an error on Leia's display stand also. Some got out spelled "Boussh."  Mine was spelled correctly, "Boushh."  You can't see the stand in the package, though, so the only way you'll know is if you open or possibly by the date stamp on the card.   Blah...who cares anymore?

I saw Yoda, Obi-Wan, Anakin, Amidala and Han holographs packed with the heroes and Stormtroopers and Dooku packed with the villains.  The base of the figures are stamped with the rebel logo which is cool.  Don't know yet what's stamped on the bottom of the villains.

Someone posted on the forums a setup using the holo figures to make a chess set.  Cool idea.  I really like them, actually, and want to get a loose set so I'll be looking for unique holos with the figures that I buy so I can put a set together.  The detail on Yoda is actually better than we've gotten on a 3.75" scale figure.  Seriously.  They must have sculpted these as 2-ups or 4-ups...I'd love to score a sculpt if that's the case.

The Freeze Frames have been my favorite pack-in with the POTJ file cards a close second...I'll rank the holos at least tied with the FF if not #1 now.

StarWarsShop.com Rant

A few weeks ago I mentioned that I ordered the Acme Archives Obi-Wan Kenobi character key from SSW.com.  When it came, FedEx, it was packed in a small box just large enough for the key.  The only packing was a small, wadded up piece of packing paper and the packing slip.  Well, the box was crushed and folded and it had pretty much ruined the key.

So, not wanting to wait for a return and replacement, I ordered a second one before they sold our or something.  I just took the standard shipping, which is already too expensive anyway, and waited 8 days (8!!?? USPS Priority is $4 and 3 days).  Well, last night I got home expecting to see a box with my new key in it.

It was in a Hefty #1 padded envelope.

A freaking envelope.

The packing material?  The bubble wrap on the inside of the envelope.  That's it.  No cardboard surrounding the key, no paper wrap, not even a biodegradable peanut.  Luckily, somehow, the key wasn't damaged and it looks incredible.  I'm sorry I waited this long to catch on to the character keys because they're really nice, especially for someone that likes the animated series.

I've read a lot of reports about SSW.com and their crappy service on different items but these two orders were the first time any of mine have been really mishandled.  It may also be my last order from them as well.  It doesn't help that there's really no way to get feedback to them other than their on-line form.  Calling them is an option but from what I've read that may not be any better of an option.

When I order from Amazon/TRU, Wal-Mart or other on-line versions of retail stores I don't expect mint collectibles because these are, after all, toys.  But when I order from the boutique stores like SSW.com, BBTS.com, or some of the other sites that cater to collectors, I expect a certain level of care in the packing.  SSW.com has failed to do that on a consistent basis from all accounts.  Boxes too small for the figures they put in, shipping to the incorrect address, whatever else they've done wrong.  The RS.com forums have a couple complaint threads on them and I wouldn't be surprised if other forums do as well.

Anyway, just wanted to rant and vent a little and let you guys know that SSW.com still doesn't seem to have gotten their crap together.  And don't even get me started on some of their prices.

Toy Run

I was in Auburn yesterday so I stopped at WM and found a new case mix with Tarkin.  They had 3 or 4 of him on the shelf.  Also a lot of #41 Clone Troopers and some #11 Darth Vader.  They had several sets of the Separation of the Twins.  Not much else figure wise.  They did have Series 2 Attacktix boosters, lightsabers, Vader helmets, talking Yoda and at least one Titanium gift pack (Slave I, metal TIE, etc).  A bunch of Asajj Unleashed along with two Obi-Wan, some M&M 2-packs and Galactic Heroes.

Target in Ithaca also had new stock of the Galactic Heroes but everything else seems to be slowly selling through.  There was at least one new case of Shadow Troopers out.  Don't know if they had another case in the back or if the store was still getting shipments.  They scanned at $12.99 still.

Target had all of the Fantastic 4 toys on clearance as well as most of the McFarlane Sports Picks.  There were a lot of red clearance tags in the aisles.  Looks like Target may be getting a head start on the clearance this year instead of waiting till just after Christmas.  It'll be interesting to see if Target still has their 2 aisle clearance this year...I'm betting yes

Added a picture of the badge art that we used for booth volunteers at Star Wars Celebration 3 as well as the PowerPoint presentation that was running on the laptop.  Both are also linked on the Multimedia page.

6-15-2005

Turned on the Multimedia section.  There are some trailers and TV spots for download as well as a couple desktop-sized scans.

6-1-2005

So, by now I'd assume that you've all see Revenge of the Sith at least once, right!  I absolutely loved the film.  One of my favorites of the entire series.  I may still be a little partial to Empire but this and Attack of the Clones occupy at least the number 2 spot in a tie.  This film may, in the end, be tied for #1 though.

This weekend I'll get to see it in digital to go along with the two screenings I've already been to.  Should be a blast.

New Sections and Updates

I'm adding two new sections and revamping a third.  First the "News and Events" page becomes the "News Archive."  Since the previous page was really a redundant front page it needed to go.

Added are "Multimedia" and "Sale & Trades," neither of which are active just yet.  The multimedia page will be up first part of next week.  I'll be adding to that as time and server space permit.

The sales page will go up, possibly, next week as well.  We'll see after the PSWCS Summer Social this weekend...I'm taking most of my "haves" with me to see about offloading them.

I also have some updates to get done.  I've added several new AT-AT Driver items as well as Republic Gunships.  Those items just need to be photographed.

5-9-2005

has it posted but if you want to download it, grab it here!

Right click and choose "Save Target as..." or click to stream it

Also, you can check out the cool "Revenge of the Brick" promo poster by clicking the thumbnail below.  Lego was giving out full-sized posters at C3.

4-16-2005

I removed the other chapters of the Clone Wars cartoon.  Needed the space back for other upcoming events like Celebration 3!

4-9-2005

I'm taking Chapters 21 and 22 of the Clone Wars cartoon offline.  They were taking up to much room on the server.  I'll leave the other three chapters up for another couple of weeks though.

Celebration 3

Celebration 3 is only about 10 days away.  Reports are popping on artists and authors that will be there and the final plans are coming on the events.  It's getting exciting!

If you're going to be at C3, stop by the PSWCS booth in the Fan Club room and say 'hey.'

4-1-2005

Rob comes through again with chapters 21 - 25 of the latest Star Wars: Clone Wars cartoon.

Right-click the links and choose "Save Target as..." to download them to your computer.  They take up a lot of room so I'm only going to leave them up for about a  week.

Enjoy!

Removed the chapters from the server.  4/16.

Hopefully in the next day or so I'll have the 5 new chapters of the "Clone Wars" cartoons available, again, thanks to Rob.

Midnight Madness - What to expect

Okay, I know some people are confused on this so I've been reading everything I can find on it. If I understand it all correctly, this is how WM is handling the release of figures, exclusives and the Tent thing.

This list shows all the stores that will be open at 12:01a.m. on 4/2 to sell figures:

Wal-Mart Midnight Madness Stores

Looking at the list for PA and NY it looks like most of them are already 24 hour stores however, I think there are a couple that aren't. Also, there are a couple 24 hour stores missing from the list (in NY anyway). These stores should all have the standard ROTS figures, vehicles, 12" and whatnot.

This next list is the 395 stores that will have the tent sale which is also known as "48 Hours of the Force." (48HotF):

Wal-Mart "48 Hours of the Force"

Not all of these stores are 24 hour stores (I'm pretty sure Quakertown isn't a 24 store for example). The Tent sale opens at 8:00a.m. on 4/2. These stores will all have the standard ROTS line-up of items for sale PLUS they are supposed to have the Early Bird exclusive set. It's also supposed to be available on-line at WalMart.com.

Some of the stores are on both lists (Dickson City and Pottstown) but there are a lot fewer stores with the 48HotF promo going on. For example, there is only 1 store in NY listed for the 48HotF event but several that will have merchandise at 12:01a.m.

If you are going to MM and your store is on the 1st list expect to find all the normal stuff but if it isn't also on list 2, don't expect to find the Early Bird exclusive. If you want the Early Bird exclusive and your WM isn't listed on list 2, look on-line. I can't tell you what time it'll be posted on the site though...that's not discussed anywhere I can find.

Footnotes: I know of two 24 hour WM stores here in NY that are not on either list. The 1 store in NY having 48HotF is NOT on the 1st list of 12:01a.m. openings. So there are still a couple mysteries on this...meaning, will a store not on either list but is a known 24 hour store have figs available at 12:01? I can't answer that. And if your WM is listed as opening at 12:01am on 4/2 but it is NOT a 24 hour store, I'd call them before running down there, especially if it's not close.

Any of this help?

And for Target and TRU? Target - 6:30a.m. - 8:00a.m. on 4/2 for tickets for your Lava Vader, 24 - 48 per store.

TRU - Holo Yoda available on 4/10 with a $25 purchase, probably will be in a weekly ad. The only store slated to have Yoda on 4/2 is the Times Square, NYC store. If you make that road trip, more power to you, you're way more hard core than I am...

Star Wars: Revenge of the Sith is just over 2 months away and now the full trailer has been released.  Showing first on "The O.C." on 3/10 and then StarWars.com, it can also be seen at theaters with Robots.

And, of course, now you can get it here by clicking the Revenge of the Sith logo.
