Merry Christmas

Hope everyone has a Merry Christmas.

We'll see you back here next week as we see if we can find some after Christmas clearance items and get ready to ring in 2009!

Best and Worst 2008

Another year has nearly passed us by and it was a mixed bag in the Star Wars hobby.  Plenty to celebrate and turn our noses up at.  Everyone has their own take on things but if you want my opinion, check out "Star Wars Collecting: The Best and Worst of 2008."

Captain Rex

If you've been putting it off, or just want to send out for one more Captain Rex figure, you only have about a week left.  The 2008 Sneak Peek Captain Rex mail-in offer ends on December 31, 2008.  All orders must be postmarked by that date and received by January 8, 2009.

Also, for the Indiana Jones collectors, don't forget that your expanded deadline is January 1, 2009 for your mail-in Crystal Skeleton, Ark and Indy and Horse toys.  Those orders also have to be received by January 8, 2009.  With Target already clearance pricing basic figures and the 12" line, now is your chance at a couple bonus pieces.

Hasbro

Hasbro snuck in a Q&A session this week to hold us over through the holidays.  Not all of the various sites have reported in yet but a few answers have cleared up some questions raised in the last round.

First up, from RebelScum.com, comes confirmation that the new Coleman Trebor figure will be in the 2009 Target exclusive 2-pack series.  This is the series that will replace the Order 66 packs.

Han's Hideout asked about the figure count for the 2009 line of Clone Wars figures.  Per Hasbro, it looks like we'll see about 40 figures in the carded line.

Jedi Temple Archives gets the scoop that we'll see a Sullustan B-Wing pilot in the 2009 Return of the Jedi wave.  Per Hasbro it may be Nien Nunb but it hasn't been set yet.

Admiral Piett

Sideshow

Last night's Sideshow newsletter announced the next figure in the 1:6 line and it's Admiral Piett.

The figure isn't up for pre-order yet but listed as "coming soon."  I'm assuming it'll go up sometime over the weekend rather than wait for the next newsletter which is probably delayed due to the upcoming holiday.

Keep your eyes on SideshowToy.com and your favorite news sites for the ordering announcement.

Acme Archives

Jedi Mickey

Acme announced, and put up for pre-order, their newest Character Key last night.  They Key is Jedi Mickey.

The Key is limited to 1,000 pieces and is priced at $35.00 for the regular key or framed for $69.

This is the first in a new line of keys from Acme Archives and while other characters have been announced yet it's a good bet that if we've seen Disney statues or plush of a character, it's probably on Acme's radar.

Hasbro

Hasbro released some photos of new Titanium vehicles that will be coming early in 2009.  There are a couple cool new models such as the Republic Attack Shuttle and Twilight but while it comes with a repainted ROTS Jedi Starfighter, the new Hyperdrive ring for Anakin's ship is very cool.

Millennium Falcon

If you're looking for a good price on the new Millennium Falcon you should keep your eyes on Walmart stores which have been marking this down to $99 in a lot of stores.

Also, Target has been offering it for $104 on their web site and it may qualify for cheap or free shipping.  They were offering free shipping the other day but that promo may come and go as we get closer to the Christmas holiday.

Hasbro

Over the weekend we posted a list of the 2009 Legacy Collection waves but Hasbro updated us this week with new info.  In the original response to a question by Han's Hideout it looked like we were going to see seven waves for a total of 48 figures.

That has now gone to eight waves for a total of 54 figures.  The missing wave is an Attack of the Clones wave which will be wave three.  The new list of 2009 TLC waves shapes up below.

  • Wave 1: ANH 8 figures
  • Wave 2: ESB 6 figures
  • Wave 3: AOTC 6 figures
  • Wave 4: ROTJ 8 figures
  • Wave 5: ANH 8 figures
  • Wave 6: TPM 6 figures
  • Wave 7: ROTS 6 figures
  • Wave 8: ESB 6 figures

The first four waves are slated for spring and the second four for fall.  If the build-a-droid accessory follows this year's model we're looking at six new astromechs and five new protocol droids.

Lego

Reports are coming in that some of the 2009 Lego sets are showing up at Toys-R-Us.  Found were the new ATT, Republic Attack Shuttle, Vader's TIE Advanced and Hyena Droid Bomber.

Keep your eyes peeled if you're interested in these or any of the other new sets.

Acme Archives

Acme is having a 25% off sale all day today on all items on their AcmeArchivesDirect.com website.  Use code HOLIDAY25 during checkout to receive the discount.

Besides Star Wars they also have art from Indiana Jones, Halo, Hellboy, Disney and several other licenses.

Unfortunately it doesn't appear that the sale applies to their line of Character Keys or Sketchplates which are sold from their characterkey.com web site.

eFX

The next replica release from eFX will be Luke Skywalker's X-Wing Fighter.  Several websites had a preview of this new ship last weekend and come tomorrow, you can place your order for your very own.

And the best news, all pre-orders received by December 21st will receive a plaque autographed by Mark Hamill, for no additional cost!

The X-Wing has an edition size of 1,000 pieces and has light-up features including the cockpit and engines.  It rings in at $1,199 but there is a 3 month layaway plan available.

Gus and Duncan's Comprehensive Guide to Star Wars

Gus Lopez and Duncan Jenkins have put together a new collectible book that covers all areas of collectibles from 1977 to the present and ranges from production items to cast and crew and everything in between.

Their new book rings it at 984 pages and contains 36,000 photos and listings for over 75,000 items.  The hardcover book is on sale now from Paizo Publishing and is scheduled to ship in January 2009.

The price is only $64.99 plus shipping and you may not want to wait.  This will probably be a hot seller.

Hasbro

A couple final updates to last Friday's Q&A session.

Raving Toy Maniac asked about future The Force Unleashed figures and Hasbro again confirmed a Shaak Ti figure for a 2010 EU wave.  What's new, however, is that they also confirmed they are now working on a whole new wave of TFU figures for mid-Spring 2010.  And in the final part of the answer, they have confirmed that they will release the (former) Game Stop exclusive Stormtrooper Commander as a ShopStarWars.com and HasbroToyShop.com shared exclusive at the 2009 San Diego Comic-Con.

RTM also asked about future Legacy comic packs and Hasbro confirms two sets for 2009 with two more planned for 2010.  The 2009 sets will be based on issues #22 and #7 for July and November respectively.

In Galactic Hunter's Q&A for the week they asked about future 2-packs such as the Droid Factory and Order 66.  Hasbro said that the Order 66 sets at Target are done for now but that Target will have a new line in 2009.  Maybe this is the line where the new Coleman Trebor will be.

Hasbro

A couple additional sites have posted their Q&A and as a follow-up to the earlier update here are a couple new pieces of info.

Han's Hideout asked about the order of the waves for 2009 in the Legacy collection and here they are:

  • Wave 1: ANH 8 figures
  • Wave 2: ESB 6 figures
  • Wave 3: ROTJ 8 figures
  • Wave 4: ANH 8 figures
  • Wave 5: TPM 6 figures
  • Wave 6: ROTS 6 figures
  • Wave 7: ESB 6 figures

There was a Wave 8 scheduled for 2009 but it may be pushed back to January 2010.  That wave has 6 figures and is an EU wave.  For the ROTJ wave, it was previously announced by Hasbro that Jabba's guard Woof would be included.  Hasbro mentions that this is no longer included, replaced by a Nikto guard, and that Woof will be in the line for 2010.

The Jawa asked about future "Heir to the Empire" figures and Hasbro responded that we can look forward to "a couple" new figures in 2009.  Per Hasbro they are new figures but doesn't look like either will be Jorus C'Baoth.

Hasbro

Hasbro is back from the Thanksgiving holiday with a new round of answers to all the burning questions.

First up, from Imperial Shipyards, comes a small tidbit about an upcoming figure based on the Clone Wars micro series.  When asked about Koorivar soldiers, Hasbro replied that hey wouldn't be doing any more figures from the micro series "with one exception."  I don't recall if we'd had that hint before, I'll have to check my notes, otherwise let the speculation begin.

From Jedi Insider comes confirmation that we'll see the Droid Commandos from the Clone Wars episode "Rookies."  Not huge news because, seriously, you can watch the cartoon and almost pick out the characters that they've introduced almost solely to sell more toys.

Jedi News asked a question about the FX lightsabers and while there's no solid news on new hilts (ie not already sold by Master Replicas), two were mentioned as being in production; EP1 Obi-Wan Kenobi and Count Dooku.  Very cool news as the EP1 Obi-Wan was high on my list of models I'd like to see and could very well be my first FX purchase.

It was mentioned before that 2009 will see several (I believe the number was 4) concept figures and Hasbro confirms, via Jedi Temple Archives, that the figures will be based on art from Ralph McQuarrie, Joe Johnston, Jun and Thompson (I think that's Derek Thompson).  This goes back on the original info that there wouldn't be a McQuarrie piece of art.  Since then, however, there has been a rumor of a concept Leia figure and it's been suggested that it would be a McQuarrie design.  Now that Hasbro confirms one will be based on his work, that's looking more likely.

In the same set of questions from JTA it was confirmed that the second Empire Strikes Back wave of 2009 figures will include a Luke Skywalker -Snowspeeder Pilot figure.  No info, yet, on the rest.

Mouse Droid asked for info on the previously confirmed Coleman Trebor for 2008.  Hasbro clarifies that he will not be 100% new but will reuse some parts of the previous release along with new pieces and some reused Jedi parts from another figure.  The more important piece of info is that he will not be a single carded figure but will, instead, be part of an exclusive 2-pack.  I'm assuming either another Droid Factory wave or something new since he didn't make it to the ROTS era or Order 66.  But this is the first mention of a new line of exclusive 2-packs for 2009 unless it is, in fact, more Droid Factory.

Hasbro previously announced an Evolution of the Rebel Pilots #3 and Rebel Scum asked if Hasbro could provide a list of the characters in that upcoming set.  They could, and did.  The figures will be Red 4 John D. Brannon, Green Commander from the Battle of Endor Jake Farrell, and Shira Brie who is an EU character.  Hasbro also mentions that the production for this set has some distribution issues, namely that it won't be for sale at all retailers.  They should update us as it becomes more clear where these will be sold.

Sideshow

Don't forget that today is ordering day for Obi-Wan Kenobi.  There are some new preview photos online now if you want to check him out.

The exclusive is a saberdart.  He goes up for sale at 1:00PM EST and may sell out the exclusive edition which is only 1000 pieces.

Toy Drive

This Saturday, December 6th, the PSWCS collecting group will be holding a toy drive at the Toy Cave in Carlisle, PA.  The goal is to collect toys for Garrison Carida of the 501st which will be given out during the year to children in hospitals throughout the PA, Delaware and West Virginia area.

Please see the PSWCS website for more information, including an address if you would like to mail your donations.

Obi-Wan Kenobi

Sideshow

Over the holiday weekend Sideshow announced their next 1:6 figure and it's an Attack of the Clones version of Obi-Wan Kenobi.  It looks to use the same head sculpt as the General Obi-Wan Kenobi only now he's outfitted in the more traditional Jedi robes.

The pre-order will go up at 1:00PM EST on Friday, December 5, 2008.  Look for the exclusive edition to be 1,000 pieces and set you back $69.99.  Not sure of the exclusive piece with the figure yet and I don't think I've seen any speculation on the forums.

WizKids

Apparently some info about the future of WizKids was discussed back in the July timeframe but what came as kind of a shock news item to me is that Topps announced on November 14th that WizKids would cease all operations.  The entire news release, which appeard on the WizKids web site is below.

Announcement

The Topps Company announced today that WizKids will immediately cease operations and discontinue its product lines.

Scott Silverstein, CEO of Topps, said “This was an extremely difficult decision. While the company will still actively pursue gaming initiatives, we feel it is necessary to align our efforts more closely with Topps current sports and entertainment offerings which are being developed within our New York office.”

Upon notifying our partners, Topps will immediately pursue strategic alternatives so that viable brands and properties, including HeroClix, can continue without noticeable disruption. To that end, WizKids will continue supporting Buy it By the Brick redemptions for Arkham Asylum, and the December Organized Play events for HeroClix.

For consumer announcements, please refer to www.wizkidsgames.com over the coming days for further information

This is on the heals of the latest booster release for the Star Wars PocketModel game, Tactics.  It'll be interesting to see if they sell the game off to a company like Wizards of the Coast or if they'll let it die with the product already out there.

Word is that the latest mail-in promo at Target is no longer valid due to this change in the status of WizKids.  I'll post more if I find any additional information.
