Gentle Giant

2007 Premier Guild Gift

GG emailed all Premier Guild members today with information about this year's gift package that is in the process of being mailed out.

The package contains a Clone Trooper Bust-Up, Simpsons Rock 'n Roll Fantasy Camp and Killer Krusty Bust-Ups along with a messenger bag, dog tag and mouse pad.  The full press release is included below.

Hello Premier Guild Members,

We have started shipping out the first wave shipments of PGM gifts and will continue shipping out waves through the next couple of weeks.

For our inaugural gift, as a Thank You for being part of our first year, we have included the following items:

Become a member of the Gentle Giant Bust-Ups collector army with this Star Wars: Attack of the Clones Clone Trooper Sergeant Bust-Up. The Premier Guild Membership gift is the only place these will be deployed.

Join the Gentle Giant Band with the Simpsons Rock 'n Roll Fantasy Camp Bust-Ups Assortment. Never before sold to the public, this set not only includes the 3 original members, Homer, Barney and Otto, but introduces Apu and Wiggum to the jam session.

While we here at Gentle Giant know things with our new site and our Premier Guild have gone through some growing pains, we're sure you've had your "kill" switch turned on at some point. Now with this Simpsons Killer Krusty Bust-Up, he can do the dirty work so you won't have to.

For all those long hours you sit in front of your computer refreshing your screen, do it next time with your mouse resting on its official Gentle Giant Premier Guild Mouse Pad.

When you're out at the next convention, take pride in showing you're a Gentle Giant Premier Guild member with the Gentle Giant Messenger Bag and Gentle Giant Premier Guild Dog Tag.

We hope you enjoy all these items that are part of the inaugural Gentle Giant Premier Guild Membership gift. We are already planning some great products for our continuing members of the Premier Guild.

Sincerely,
The Gentle Giant Ltd. Team

P.S. - For inquiring minds, the 2008 Premier Guild Membership Gift will be a Star Wars Clone Trooper Lieutenant Classics Bust. Stay tuned for more details.

Well, that's about what was expected. It's not completely unfortunate but next year's Classics Bust sounds better. Anyone want some Simpsons Bust-Ups and a mouse pad?

Around the Toy Aisle

I thought I'd wrap up the month with a little rundown of what I've spotted over the last couple of days locally.

Wal-Mart

Spotted wave 6 at the local Wal-Mart last night and picked up the lone McQuarrie Snowtrooper to open.  They have plenty of Saga Legends but most of the TAC figures are from the first two waves such as Obi-Wan, R2, Mace and the Death Star Trooper.

They did have all of the new Transformers including the Cody/Turbo Tank.  Newest wave of comic 2-packs were also stocked over the last couple of days and they are pretty caught up on Galactic Heroes.

Plenty of lightsabers as well as Titanium vehicles but most of those are older.

The Transformers section has been hit or miss again for the last couple of weeks but they have pretty regularly had stock of the deluxe line.  One cool thing that I saw yesterday that was new to me was the Ultimate Bumblebee packed in with two deluxe figures, Scorponok and Brawl.  Not a bad deal for $80 when you're getting $20 worth of free figures.

Finally seeing heavy stock on all the Marvel lines including Spider-Man, Fantastic Four and Legends including both the 6" line and Galactic Heroes.

WWE figures were packed on the shelves as were the most recent Cars releases.  Plenty of remote control vehicles line the back wall and both the games section and Lego have been well stocked for the holiday shopping season.

The other miscellaneous action figures like Ben 10, Pirates of the Caribbean, Japanimation lines and Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles have stock come and go but I didn't pay them much attention yesterday.  Die-cast cars including Hot Wheels and Matchbox look to be well represented.

K-Mart

When K-Mart is dry it's dry.  When it hits, however, it usually hits big and this week was no different.  They scored a case of wave 4 TAC figures a week ago and I saw the McQuarrie Vader as well as UGH versions of Han, Luke and McQuarrie Stormtrooper.  They have several of the Starfighter vehicles in stock along with some Galactic Heroes and even a few Unleashed Battle Packs.

I also found the new exclusive Tin sets last night, $29.99.  They aren't the greatest mix of figures but getting another shot at Oppo Rancisis (with a lightsaber) and Sora Bulq at retail isn't all bad.  The Mace and Zam Wesell figs aren't the greatest, however.  The other two sets are better with the Episode VI Tin containing a passable Vader and three nice figures with R5-J2, VTSC Biker Scout and TSC Death Star Gunner.  The Episode III set has Anakin, Grievous, Cody and a black Clone Pilot.

The best score of the night was finding wave 3 of the 25th Anniversary G.I. Joe figures.  I picked up Firefly, Zartan, Shipwreck and Stalker.  They also had a red Ninja, Cobra Officer, Snake Eyes v2 and Storm Shadow V2 which I left.  I might stop back to see if the Ninja is still there but since I already have one I passed.  I hit K-Mart based mostly on the fact that a tip on the JediDefender.com forums pointed me that way and it paid off!

Target

Target has really started to fill up their toy aisles but it's not necessarily all good.  As I mentioned earlier in the week the Ultimate Battle Packs of Hoth and Endor are out as is the new WOTC Battle of Hoth scenario pack.  Battle Packs have also been re-stocked including the newest sets.

Unleashed Battle Packs, Galactic Heroes and Comic 2-packs are in abundance as are (finally) Titanium vehicles.  Although the stock of TAC figures has been sporadic they have had shipments of figures up to and including wave 6.

Most of what they have, though, are Saga Legends which they seem to stack the pegs with to keep them full.  Most recently they put out some TC-14, R4-I9 and Biker Scouts.  Oh, and a Clone Trooper Sergeant.

Down the aisle the G.I. Joe section has seen plenty of the 5-packs but I believe it's been over 2 months since the store has seen any carded figures.  There are some 8" Sigma Six figures left, though.

The Elite Forces figures have a huge presence this year and almost make up for the lack of Hasbro product.  The vehicles, at least, are incredible.

Transformers are in a similar state to that of Wal-Mart; better than summer but not perfect.

Pirates of the Caribbean has really been stocked up heavily over the last week but this might be the last push on them with the DVD of the third movie dropping next week and Christmas coming in a month.  I fully expect to see this line on the clearance rack by this time in January and it'll probably be gone by March.

WWE action figures still seem to be hot and are well stocked (even at K-Mart which I forgot to mention).  Naruto is about the last Japanimation figure series hanging on at Target if you don't count Pokemon which seems to have seen a resurgence in the last month with a lot of new product on shelves.

Power Rangers, TMNT and Ben 10 are holding their own on the end of the Super Hero aisle with Ben 10 seemingly the best seller that I've noticed.

The DC figures have been moving through with the JLU figures moving the fastest.  They have some really cool stuff though.  Some new The Batman figures showed up a couple weeks ago and there is another line of DC characters that I don't really pay attention to which come and go.

The Marvel figures including Spider-Man, F4 and the Marvel Legends line still command about half the aisle.  I have to tell you though, that Blob Build-A-Figure wave of Legends figures is a dog.  It's been hanging on at both WM and Target now for months and has pretty much choked off the new wave.  Maybe it's different in other locations but I have seen those figures pretty much everywhere I've been.

The Lego aisle was about cleaned out after this past weekend but Target has already re-stocked.  There are some really cool sets this year and a pretty decent price range to choose from which is better than some other recent years.

Final Thoughts

It'll be interesting to see if Hasbro can fix their G.I. Joe stocking problem by Christmas.  I think it might be too late but we'll see.  They seem committed to keep the line going for 2 or 3 more waves plus comic packs next year.

I have to also wonder about the final waves of Star Wars Thirtieth Anniversary Collection figures.  I know wave 8 has been found in stores but no matter how things work in Hasbro's perfect little assortment model, Saga Legends are causing a problem at retail.  I gave them the benefit of the doubt for most of the summer but there's no escaping it now.

Transformers look to stay hot right up till Christmas but it's going to be interesting to see what Spider-Man does.  Now that both DVDs have been released I think Spider-Man, at least, will settle down and probably shrink in aisle footprint after Christmas.

As I said above, I think POTC will get a bump for the DVD release next week and that should help it sell for Christmas but after that I'd think it's days are numbered.  I'll give Zizzle this, they came out with a pretty ambitious line of toys including several large playsets.  The figures weren't always the best, but they do have their own charm.

Wizards of the Coast

WOTC has released a new scenario pack, Battle of Hoth.  It's a Target exclusive, limited to 20,000 sets and comes in at $59.99 but it includes 17 pieces including two exclusives.  The complete list of pieces:

Battle of Hoth
  • Luke Skywalkr on Tauntauyn
  • Darth Vader, Imperial Commander
  • General Veers, Hologram *
  • Han Solo on Tauntaun
  • Princess Leia, Hoth Commander
  • Blizzard Scout I *
  • Rebel Snowspeeder
  • Rebel Leader
  • Elite Hoth Trooper x2
  • Hoth Trooper w/ Atgar Cannon
  • Hoth Trooper x2
  • Elite Snowtrooper
  • Snowtrooper w/ E-Web Blaster
  • Snowtrooper x2

* - exclusive to this pack

Also included in the box are a map, rulebook, life counter sheet and d20 die.  The packs I saw on the shelves also had a Bounty Hunters booster shrink wrapped to them which gets you 7 additional minis including one Huge piece.

If you don't have any of the pieces included in the set or are looking for a fun way to start a Hoth game, this might be a good place to start.

Holiday Shopping

Lot's to catch up on so let's get right to it.

Black Friday shopping was a mixed bag.  The various stores that had specials on Star Wars toys had them out but stores without specials didn't stock anything new or interesting.

The best unpublicized deal I found was at the Binghamton Wal-Mart where nearly all Star Wars toys were 50% off.  Action figures and Galactic Heroes for $3.44, Comic 2-packs and Unleashed Battle Packs for $4.98, Transformers for $7.49 and Starship vehicles for $9.98.

Lightsabers, larger Transformers and the Vader laptops were all marked down as well.  The only thing that wasn't were the Titanium vehicles.

They had the newest wave of comic 2-packs and I also scored a set of the orange and white Pit Droids.  Added a Sith Infiltrator and the reddish-brown haired version of the Imperial Officer from the Saga Legends line.

Target in Binghamton also had the new comic 2-packs over the weekend and I spotted several 25th Anniversary GI Joe figures but nothing worth spending cash on.  The newest Titanium wave was out at both stores but they're re-paints so I didn't pay them much attention.

Target

Sunday saw the debut of the Ultimate Battle Packs at Target for the "WOW or Never" promotion this week.  Both sets are actually quite impressive when you see them on the shelf.  I haven't bought either yet but I'm partial to the Hoth set because of the Snowtrooper army builders, blue coat Han, Luke and the turret which is a really nice accessory.  At $50 they aren't cheap but they're a helluva deal for 8 figures, a vehicle and a large accessory.

Target's other winter exclusives should be available this coming Sunday, December 2nd.  I believe they will have advertising in the Sunday flyer.  We should see the TIE Bomber, ARC-170, ARC-170 Battle Pack and the AT-RT Assault Squad Battle Pack.

Last night I spotted the Betrayal on Bespin, Droid Factory Capture, and Clone Attack on Coruscant Battle Packs on the shelves of my local store.  The Bespin and Coruscant packs aren't bad if you're missing any of the OT characters or Clone Troopers but the Droid Factory set is kind of weak.  Still, 5 figures for $20 at Christmas time is a good deal.

Sideshow

Sideshow has offered up two new items over the last week.  The first debuted during their "Black and White Friday" event and is a TC-14 VCD by Medicom.  It's a re-paint of their C-3PO and runs $59.99.  Shipping is scheduled for first quarter 2008.

Next up is their Cyber Monday debut of a 1:1 scale Salacious Crumb.  He's about 17" tall and looks pretty cool!  Salacious is scheduled to ship the second quarter of 2008 and will set you back $349.99.

Gentle Giant

GG also debuted three new items on Friday, all are exclusive through ActionFigureXpress.com.  The lone Star Wars item is a maquette of Luke Skywalker in Stormtrooper gear battling with the trash compactor monster!

The other two are a rotocast Hellboy animated figure and a Ringwraith on horse Animaquette.  Luke runs $89.99, Hellboy $34.99 and the Ringwraith $119.99.  You can pick them up separately or in a bundle.

All three pieces are up now for pre-order and are scheduled to ship in January 2008.

WizKids

RebelScum.com is passing along a report that WizKids will be releasing four new expansion sets in 2008; Order 66, Scum & Villainy, Secret Weapons and Galaxy At War.

I'm psyched for the Order 66 set which looks to have a Gunship as one of the pieces.

Friday Sales

Don't forget that this Friday there will be some deals both on-line and at retail.

  • KB Toys will have Battle Packs for $14.99 as an early bird special.
  • Radio Shack is listing Star Wars flashlights as $5.99.
  • ShopStarWars.com will be offering 10% off all items in their store to the general public while Hyperspace members enjoy a 20% discount.  The sale will run from 12:01A.M. till 11:59P.M.

  • Ollie's will be offering Star Wars action figures under $2.  Revenge of the Sith has been mentioned but the selection may vary.
  • HasbroToyShop.com is having sales up to 75% off on selected items.  Star Wars isn't mentioned but it's worth checking out.
  • Toys-R-Us is offering the Millennium Falcon Transformer for $19.99.

Make sure to check out all the advertisements in the Thursday edition of your local paper.

Gentle Giant

If you are a Premier Guild member then you should be getting an email shortly letting you know that GG is finally sending out their Premier Guild Welcome Gift starting next week.

What is it that you'll be getting?  Beats me.  Apparently it's a bigger secret than the location of the hidden Rebel base.

Either that or GG just didn't want to take their ration of shit over the holiday weekend from the various forums.

My prediction?  We won't be impressed.  (fyi, that's me using reverse psychology)

Heart Collection

Salt & Pepper Mill

During the past 30 years of Star Wars collecting there have been many odd items released under license from Lucasfilm; Pepsi cans, cake pans, Koosh balls, C-3PO tape dispensers, you get the idea.

None of them make Salt & Pepper shakers seem all that odd and, they're not, really.  Heart Collection is releasing a set of salt and pepper mills in the form of R2-D2 and R2-Q5 in Japan.  They're scheduled for a February 2008 release.

Taking that one step further, however, are the R2-D2 and R2-Q5 Soy Sauce bottles, also from Heart Collection.  Yep, soy sauce bottles.  For $50 each you can pre-order both sets now from

Soy Sauce
BigBadToyStore.com.

Japan has had some interesting items come out this year including the R2-D2 waste basket, laundry basket and mimobot flash drives.  Not to mention the awesome Kotobukiya vinyl kits and Medicom Real Action Hero figures.  I think I'd have to draw the line at soy sauce bottles, however.

11-20-2007

Target

Starting November 25th and running till December 1st, Target is holding a "WOW or Never" promotion where you have the chance to buy 20 exclusive gifts and win 20 prizes.

Included in the "WOW or Never" promo are the two Ultimate Battle Packs; The Battle of Hoth and The Battle of Endor.  Both sets will be $49.

There are some reports of these Battle Packs being released early so make sure to stop by Target this week.  If they aren't out now, look for them on Sunday.

If you are after the other Winter exclusives that Target will be offering up for sale, you may not have to wait till your store stocks the shelves.  The following exclusives are available for order on-line right now:

Target will also have an exclusive Galactic Heroes Cinema Scene but I don't see it listed on-line at this point.

Gentle Giant & AFX

Action Figure Xpress and Gentle Giant are teaming up to release three new exclusives this Friday, November 23rd.  At 1:00PM EST time look to ActionFigureXpress.com for the announcement and chance to pre-order.

There's no guarantee that there will be a Star Wars exclusive but AFX is the store that brought us the Coruscant Clone Trooper earlier this year.

Sideshow

Friday is "Black and White Friday" at Sideshow Collectibles.  Look for discounts on current items as well as new pre-orders for items based on a black and white theme.

No time is given for this to start so I'd assume start of business PST time.  Keep an eye on Sideshowtoy.com for more info.

Our hosting company will be moving us to a new server sometime in the next 24 hours.  While we shouldn't see any down time, it might happen so bear with us.

Acme Archives

The Holiday Special Boba Fett Character Key has now been confirmed as a Hyperspace exclusive sold through ShopStarWars.com.  Edition size is 750 pieces and it will probably go up for sale in the first or second week of December.

According to Morly from Acme Archives, Frank Nissen drew the design for the key.  Nissen worked on the original Holiday Special.

Sideshow is also showing a pre-order for a TIE Pilot Character Key that appears to be the same as the one sold for Celebration Europe and at some on-line e-tailers, only it's framed.

Unsure at this point if it's part of the original 1,000 piece edition or if it's new.  I'll update when I get more info.

Wizards of the Coast

The latest expansion set of miniatures from WOTC should be hitting the street today.  It's the "Force Unleashed" set and has 60 pieces including 9 or 10 Huge pieces.

One of the Huge pieces is an awesome looking Rancor with a Felucia Warrior riding him.

Of course I'm looking forward to the first mini of the AT-AT Driver which is included in the set.  Look for these at your local gaming and book stores.

11-15-2007

Hasbro

I spotted waves 4, 5, and 6 locally yesterday between Wal-Mart and Target and there were even a couple McQuarrie figures left on the shelf.

Wal-Mart had most of wave 5 including Hermi Odle, C-3PO, Roron Corobb, Yoda and Nelvaan Anakin Skywalker.  I hadn't been in since Sunday so I'm unsure which case assortment these figures came out of.

Target had a brand new case of wave 4 revision 3 on the shelf which included UGH versions of Vader, McQuarrie Fett and X-Wing Biggs.  Also on pegs were the Animated Debut Fett, Jedi Luke, CZ-4, McQuarrie Vader, M'Iiyoom Onith and Umpass-Stay.

There were also some leftover wave 6 figures, notably Smuggler Lando and 4-LOM.  Earlier in the week they also had General McQuarrie and Han with torture rack but no sign of the McQuarrie Snowtrooper.

Overall that's not a bad showing for Target although Wal-Mart had wave 5 figures for the first time two months ago.

Wave 8 has been spotted in a few locations in the US already so while seeing new stock on the pegs is always good, we're 3 waves behind again and November is half over.

Acme Archives

Has the next Character Key been announced?  In an email from StarWars.com advertising Hyperspace membership benefits they give us a teaser for items coming "next month" and then list:

"Hyperspace exclusive window to purchase a limited-to-750 Holiday Special Boba Fett Character Key from Acme."

Interesting news.  I wonder if it will be all new or just a re-colored version of the Fett key that came out in October?  I'm guessing on a whole new key knowing Acme.

11-12-2007

Kotobukiya

Koto has a new ArtFX statue coming in 2008 of Boba Fett.  He's scheduled for April 2008 and will ring in about $85 to $100 depending on where you order from.

BigBadToyStore.com has him for pre-order right now for $84.99.

Black Friday Sales

Some of the advertisements for this year's "Black Friday" sales are starting to hit the web and a few Star Wars items have been mentioned.

  • KB Toys will have Battle Packs for $14.99 as an early bird special.
  • Radio Shack is listing Star Wars flashlights as $5.99.
  • ShopStarWars.com will be offering 10% off all items on their store to the general public while Hyperspace members enjoy a 20% discount.  The sale will run from 12:01A.M. till 11:59P.M.
  • K-Mart is offering Buy 1 Get 1 for 50% off of equal or lesser value.

I'll keep an eye on the ads as we get closer and post anything else I notice.

Hasbro

I found plenty of waves 5 and 6 over the weekend at both Target and Wal-Mart stores in Ithaca and Binghamton, NY however there wasn't a McQuarrie Concept figure in sight.

Target in Ithaca had wave 6 with Han, Lando, 4-LOM and General McQuarrie all on the shelves as late as yesterday.

On Saturday I spotted both waves at Wal-Mart in Binghamton.  There were plenty of both waves including multiple Darth Revan figures and at least one Hermi Odle.  Other than the McQuarrie figures I think the only others that I didn't see were the wave 5 Anakin and possibly Darth Malak but I didn't pay very close attention for those two.

There were some wave 4 figures around including a couple UGH X-Wing Biggs figures but, again, no wave 4 McQuarrie figures.

Wal-Mart had a fair share of Saga Legends figures as well.  I wasn't looking for any in particular other than the Pit Droids but I saw figures all the way up through the Scout Trooper wave.

No sign of wave 7 in the wild this weekend, however, but it has hit the East Coast as it was found about a week ago in PA.

HasbroToyShop.com

I put in a new order about a week ago as they had the wave 6 figures in stock (except for the McQ figs!!!) and with the discount codes it worked out to only be a couple dollars more than retail price.  Anyway, I added on a package of the Saga Legends Pit Droids in the orange/white color variation.  HTS.com was selling all the SL Pit Droids under one listing and rotating the photo but they've actually split them out and the description is based on the color.

Well, for the second time, the first being when I ordered while they were showing the maroon variant, I actually received the white variant.  Crap!

Evidently I'm not the only one that had this happen as others on the various forums are reporting the same outcome.  Some did receive the orange version so they are available.

Of the three dozen or so packs that I've seen on store shelves over the last couple weeks only two or three have been of the maroon variant and none have been orange.

Just a heads-up in case anyone is thinking about placing an order on HTS.com for these, and other variants such as the Battle Droids or Clone Commanders, you may not get what's pictured or in the description.

Just as there's a fault with Hasbro's split assortment numbering and re-order plans with the TAC and SL lines, the lowest common denominator is the minimum wage-slave that packs or stocks your toys.

Gentle Giant

The raffle for the 5-pack of Commander busts is now live on Gentle Giant's web site.  Log in to your account and hit the blog for links.  You have till 11/13 to get your name in the hat.  All 5 Commanders in each set will have the same edition number and the set will run $250.

Acme Archives

If you are a "Family Guy" fan and missed out on the Blue Harvest litho print of the Griffin family as your favorite Star Wars characters, Acme has your second chase.

They're offering a 1,000 piece edition of this print framed for $95 or unframed for $39.  To make it even better, free shipping!  Head over to Acme's web page to put your order in.

This is estimated to ship this month.

Hasbro

I had a chance to hit up the local Wal-Mart today and was surprised to find a huge end cap full of Saga Legends and TAC wave 6 figures.  No McQuarrie figures were present but there were multiples of Torture Rack Han, Smuggler Lando and General McQuarrie.

Plenty of Saga Legends Pit Droids (all white), AOTC Clone Trooper officers (no Sergeant) and ROTS Shock Troopers and Clone Commanders.

Although there were wave 6 TAC figures on the shelf I didn't see any hint of wave 5.  There were leftover wave 4 figures on the pegs which might be left over from the score of UGH figures I had a couple weeks ago.  No UGH figures today, however.

The local Target has put out some new Saga Legends figures over the last few days but nothing on the TAC front since I found a lone Smuggler Lando Monday.

Holiday Star Wars Items

Target is resetting their seasonal aisles for the Christmas holiday and I found a few Star Wars items.  First up was an empty spot labeled for a $5.99 Titanium vehicle.  No indication yet if it will be one vehicle, a selection of several or if it will have special packaging or not.

There is a selection of cool mini Transformers and Mattel has some Cars vehicles out including Mater, Ramon and McQueen.  These are similar to their Halloween selection only in new colors.

The other Star Wars items were candy related.  They're from the same company that had the Halloween Vader candy, Galerie.  There are three mugs for $6.99 each and are shaped like Darth Vader, Boba Fett and a Stormtrooper.  These are similar to the Vader, Chewy and R2 mugs from a couple years ago.

For $12.99 there are also three candy jars.  Again, Darth Vader, Boba Fett and Stormtrooper.  These aren't as large as the Vader and C-3PO jars that have been out the past couple years but they're all pretty cool.  The Fett mug and jar, especially, look pretty slick.

No photos yet but I'll probably pick up one or two of these.  I'm also interested to see what the Titanium toy will be.

11-6-2007

Target

I found remnants of TAC wave 6 at the local Target last night.  There was one Lando figure on the shelf but nothing else.  Unfortunately I think that means that store has now skipped wave 5 completely and may have skipped wave 3 as well.

They've had the odd figures that were originally from waves 3 and 4 but I'm not sure that some of those didn't come from revision waves and/or were returns from other stores in town.

AT-AT Transformer

AT-AT Transformer

While the action figure front has been kind of lacking, the new Transformers wave showed up and I found both the AT-AT/AT-AT Driver and Snowspeeder/Luke Skywalker on the shelves.  The Turbo Tank/Commander Cody seems to have sold out first.

The AT-AT vehicle mode looks really nice, very Action Fleet, and even comes with a driver for the cockpit.  The paint apps on my Driver were really bad so keep an eye out for one with a decent paint job.

Robot mode is a relatively easy transformation but there are a couple parts that they ask you to fold up on the back that are somewhat awkward.  Overall, however, it's a well designed Transformer, it's sturdy and looks cool in both AT-AT and AT-AT Driver mode.

Gentle Giant

Email announcements went out yesterday notifying Premier Guild members that the raffle for the 5-pack of Clone Commanders will begin on Thursday, November 8th.  Another email with a link will be sent out but look for a blog update on Gentle Giant's web site.

Halloween

Halloween was last Wednesday but I just got around to posting this last night.  Every year I usually check out the Halloween section of stores like Target and Wal-Mart to see if there are any Star Wars themed candy or gifts available.  This year the only thing I found was a bag of 25 Darth Vader Trick or Treat Favors.

It's a bag of Darth Vader shaped, plastic candy containers.  The candy is kind of generic and comes in the shapes of bones and skulls but the containers are pretty slick looking.  The only paint apps are a couple of dabs of silver to highlight Vader's mask but the likeness is very well done.

They are made by a company called Galerie and I found them at Target for $7.99 but they may have been available at other retailers as well.

Fall Toy Sales

Last week I received several catalogs and advertisements for fall toy shopping.  The first was the Big Toy Book from Toys-R-Us but I also received one from eToys which showed off all the hot lines for the upcoming Christmas shopping season.

A catalog from Target came on Saturday and included a couple coupons of note.  First up is the Darth Vader/Death Star Transformer with a coupon for $10 off.

The second coupon is a $5 discount for either a Force Action Lightsaber or the Clone Trooper blaster role play items.

Also listed, but without a coupon, is a new PocketModel tin for the new Ground Assault expansion from WizKids.  It's listed in the ad as a Target exclusive, is $19.99 and includes a Hoth campaign with some exclusive vehicles.  I saw one in the store Saturday and it looks pretty cool...it's basically a game in a box.

The tin has some cool Hoth graphics but it's similar in execution to the CIV tin that was released back May.

Master Replicas

MR announced the final two scaled helmets that they will release this year.  Shocktrooper and Utapau Shadow Trooper.  One will be a UK exclusive with the other being released here in the US.

Prices and which helmet will go where have not been announced yet.

Senate Guard

GG has announced a new item this week, the Senate Guard Statue.  It is on sale now for Premier Guild members until Friday November 9th.  Then it will go on sale to the general Collector's Club members.

The statue has an edition size of 1,500 pieces and is priced at $165.  Head over to GG's web site and log into your account to find the order page for the statue.

Also announced this week are several edition sizes on pieces that have either just been released or will be coming shortly.

  • Darth Maul w/ Bloodfin Statue: 2,250
  • Han Solo statue: 2,000
  • Admiral Ackbar mini bust: 4,000
  • Tusken Raider mini bust: 5,000

Shipping soon from GG will be the Royal Guard and Senate Guard mini busts and the first wave of Classics busts, Boba Fett, Kit Fisto and TIE Pilot.

Hasbro

Be on the lookout for wave 7 of the TAC figures as they're starting to show up at retail.  They've been found in Pennsylvania at Wal-Mart as of Thursday of last week.

Sideshow

Hope you got your orders in for Commander Praji because he is now sold out.  Get on the wait list if you really want him, I guarantee there will be cancellations for this figure.  Honestly, $60 is steep for this character and his lack of accessories.
