Command the Force

Since the launch of the new Clone Wars and Legacy Collection lines back in July, Target.com has had a Command the Force promotion running on their web site.  Codes are sent out via email and when enough are entered into the site, new features and information are unlocked.

AT-TE

This week there were three new interesting features unlocked on the site including photos of a pre-production AT-TE, sketches of Obi-Wan Kenobi and sculpts of Anakin Skywalker, including a "hybrid" that combines details from the animated and Saga versions of the toys.

Some of the interesting pieces of info are for the AT-TE including notes that show the vehicle was originally planned to have a motorized walking feature.  Head over to Target.com to check out all the information and for more photos of the AT-TE, Obi-Wan and Anakin.

Hasbro

Remember when I said that Hasbro was really forthcoming in Friday's Q&A?  Well they also announced that a new Ugnaught will be coming in the 2009 line when they answered a question from new-to-the-Q&A site Han's Hideout.

Hasbro

Friday's Q&A with Hasbro was unusually fruitful.  Rather than vague answers, Hasbro actually confirmed some figures for as late as Fall 2009 along with some other interesting tidbits.

The Clone Wars movie introduced two cool looking Clone Scouts that tracked the kidnapped Rotta.  In an answer to ImperialShipyards.net, Hasbro confirmed they are looking at creating these figures in next year's Animated line.

Hasbro confirmed on a couple different sites what we will see in a 2009 Imperial Pilots Evolution set as a follow-up to the first set which is shipping now.  While the prequel pilots will be repaints, the set will include a new OT TIE Pilot based on the Biggs figure, from the first set, with a new closed face helmet.  One of the sites getting that answer was JediTempleArchives.com who also go the scoop from Hasbro on a new SA Imperial Officer and a minor troop builder.

Also in an answer to Jedi Temple Archives, Hasbro re-confirmed a Kyle Katarn figure for a comic pack in 2009, and mentions that he'll be paired up with a Yuuzhan Vong figure.  CreatureCantina.com confirmed Kyle back in March but the Vong character, last I checked, had been hinted at but not announced.

SirStevesGuide.com asked an interesting question about figure and wave counts for 2009.  Per Hasbro's answer we're looking at eight waves of Legacy Collection figures with six waves of 6 figures and two waves of 8 for 52 total figures.  The Clone Wars line is also slated for eight waves but only a total of 36 figures which they say will be "new/refresh" releases.  That's 88 figures right there and we haven't found out things yet such as store and event exclusives or if there will be a Vintage line next year.  One good piece of info on the eight waves of TLC figures is that we're getting one wave from each film with ESB getting a second and EU getting one.  Hopefully that'll put to rest the griping by the OT collectors about getting left out (their words) this year.

SWCollector.com scored the scoop on future Droid Factory 2-packs at Walmart with Hasbro stating that WM is onboard for another run in 2009.

The Private Universe followed on a previously asked question about a prequel Beru figure, which Hasbro confirmed, by asking if they could "assume" that an Owen figure would come out at the same time.  Hasbro's answer, "it would be safe to assume."  Great news!  Hasbro also said previously that a Cliegg Lars could possibly be in the works but probably not for next year.

Star Wars: The Clone Wars on DVD

Clone Wars DVD

StarWars.com updated yesterday with information on the DVD release for the theatrical edition of "The Clone Wars."  November 11th is the day and there are several choices, including Target and Best Buy exclusives.

The DVD will be released in standard edition, 2-disk special edition and Blu-Ray.  Target will have exclusive packaging for the 2-disk and Blu-Ray versions which will feature Commander Fox, the red deco Clone Trooper, on the front while Best Buy will have tin packaging for their 2-disk edition.

Head over to StarWars.com for all the details and the packaging variations.

Star Wars: The Clone Wars

We're just a week away from the television debut of The Clone Wars and to get us in the mood, Cartoon Network will be airing a special preview at 8:00PM tonight.  It's hosted by Ashley Eckstein, who voices Ahsoka Tano, and will include some behind the scenes features.

Sideshow

Obi-Wan Kenobi

General Obi-Wan Kenobi is scheduled to hit the US in about two weeks.  If you have this on pre-order it looks like he'll be in hand before the end of October.  I've been looking forward to this figure and can't wait till it gets here.

Edition Size Set

In the newsletter last night Sideshow released new information on a couple of items including an edition size for the upcoming Darth Vader figure.  The regular edition size has been set at 6,500 pieces and is currently listed as sold out.  If you want to pick one up, I'd suggest getting on the wait list.

Lawrence Noble Darth Vader

New for pre-order is the Lawrence Noble bronze Darth Vader statue.  Vader is 1:2 scale, or about 45-inches tall, and rings in at an astounding $18,000.00.  The pre-order requires a non-refundable deposit of $6,000.00 and only 30 pieces are being made.

He's scheduled to ship in the 4th quarter of this year (for a low $200 in shipping) and if you buy him, the 18000 points you'll earn means you probably won't have to pay for a 1:6 scale figure again for a couple of years.

Hasbro

Comic Packs
Commander Faie and Quinlan Vos
Commander Faie & Vos

Previews magazine has some new photos out of figures we haven't seen before including Wedge Antilles & Borssk Feyla, Ki-Adi-Mundi & Sharad Hett and Commander Faie & Quinlan Vos.

We may have seen the Vos and Faie figures before, but the others are new.  There is also a new Luke Skywalker & Deena Shan comic pack from "Star Wars Rebellion" #3.

The comic packs, in some cases, may have more compelling character choices in them right now then the regular TLC line has.

The Legacy Collection

I forgot to post this but back on 9/12 I found wave 3 of the Legacy Collection figures.  This was the repaint wave which included Coruscant Clone Trooper, Jodo Kast, Yaddle & Evan Piell, Saleucami Clone Trooper, Holographic Count Dooku, and Imperial Engineer.

The Yaddle and Evan Piell figures had the addition of lightsabers which was about the only upgrade over their Jedi Council releases.  The Dooku figure actually looks pretty nice while the Coruscant Clone Trooper, a ROTS-41 repaint, was my biggest surprise of the wave with the grey paint apps really taking the figure up a notch.  The Imperial Engineer is just a repaint of the Death Star Gunner, a figure I never really cared for.

Saleucami Clone Trooper is, apparently, just another name for Commander Neyo as that's the figure they used.  I'm uncertain if all his troops were supposed to have the same armor and helmet as he does or if they're supposed to be like the Trooper figure packed with Neyo in the Treachery on Saleucami battle pack.  Doesn't really matter in the end, it's not a bad figure, just not necessarily one I needed.

Jodo Kast is the worst of the bunch due to a terrible action feature and bad arm articulation.  The paint apps are very well done and if he'd been done on a VOTC Fett base, or even a better done kitbash figure with more articulation, Hasbro would have had a home run.  Unfortunately, this one is a miss.

The Build a Droid, 5D6-RA-7, is a nice figure and the only reason I probably bought most of this wave of figures.  The re-packed figs with duplicate droids parts weren't compelling enough to purchase so I went with the newish characters.

Saga Legends

I found the remnants of wave 2 of the SL figures at Target earlier this week.  There was a lone 501st Clone Trooper, still using the ROTS-41 sculpt thankfully, as well as a Vader and Maul.  The rest of the army builders, which make up the bulk of this wave, were already picked out.  I may actually pick up a few of the BARC Trooper that's shipping in this wave.  It's a cool figure that was originally released in this year's Order 66 set with Master Tsui Cho.  I like the figure so, we'll see.

Playhut

Adventure Hut

It looks as though there's a new company producing licensed playsets for children.  Playhut has a line of playhouses and furniture in the $20 to $50 range available at Toys-R-Us and Target stores, at least.

Most appear to have Clone Wars themes to them at this point.  Below is a list of items that have turned up on the TRU and Target web sites.

Playhut has a web site where they list their licensed products but Star Wars doesn't appear to be listed yet.

The items are listed as new on the various sites where I spotted them.  The Target site has most of them listed as being available in 2 to 6 weeks with some online only while others are said to be available in stores.

Target

Just a quick update to the post yesterday about the Target dollar items.  Looks like most of the items also are available with Darth Vader and Yoda motifs as well as some R2-D2 and Clone Wars deco.

I also found some sticker sheets in the same section.  There were at least two different packages with different stickers in each.  I didn't go through the whole stack of them so there may be more than two styles and I just didn't see the others.

Overall they aren't bad items for a buck each.  They'd make good Halloween handouts or even stocking stuffers for Christmas if you have a Star Wars fan on your shopping list.

Star Wars: The Force Unleashed

Today is the launch day for The Force Unleashed.  If you haven't already stopped at your local gaming store to pick it up, keep in mind the following offers.

  • Best Buy is giving away a free t-shirt with purchase
  • Toys-R-Us is giving away a $20 gift certificate and is also offering 50% off the game guide if purchased with the game
  • Game Stop has the Stormtrooper Commander

Toys-R-Us is also having a sale on the Battle Packs and Starfighter line of vehicles this week.  Both are on sale for $18.74 (TRU charges $24.99 normally).

IGN.com has a good review of the game on their web site.  They gave the game a 7.3 (out of 10) rating and point out both the high and low points of the game. (Note, the review linked is for the X-Box 360 version but IGN also offers PS3 and Wii reviews as well)

Target

PSWCS member Tom A. posted last night that his local Target had some new items in the $1 section at the front of the store.  These might be of interest to the Boba Fett collectors out there.

  • Pack / Set of 6 "Bounty Hunter" Push up Crayons
  • Pack / set of 6 "Boba Fett" Push pencils

Hasbro

Stormtrooper Commander

The Force Unleashed video game is finally releasing on Tuesday, September 16th and to go along with it Game Stop stores have an exclusive Stormtrooper Commander figure.

Up till now we didn't have specifics on it but Hasbro put out this press release on Friday with more details.

We have gotten word from LucasArts regarding the much-anticipated The Force Unleashed Stormtrooper Commander 3-3/4" figure — and we wanted to make sure you were equally informed to share the info with your readers!

In the U.S., it will be available at GameStop at midnight on Sept 15th
(the first day of sale will be Sept. 16th everywhere). It will be
available while supplies last, with a priority for those who pre-order
the game.

In Canada, the figure will be available at EB Games for their pre-orders.

In the U.K., it will be available at HMV for their pre-orders.

One thing to mention, however, is that reports are in that some Game Stop stores are already handing these figures out.  Some stores are handing them out in advance to people pre-ordering the game and paying in full in advance.  Others are just handing them out with the pre-order.

It's unclear if only stores participating in the midnight release event will have these or if all stores will.  According to forum reports some stores have up to 24 figures which is probably about two cases.  So, I'd recommend calling your local Game Stop store to find out if they'll have the figure and, if so, what you need to do to secure one.

Sideshow

It's been relatively slow on the Star Wars front for Sideshow since SDCC got over.  Last night, however, they announced the next 1:6 figure in the line and it's Captain Antilles.  No sale date for this one yet but don't be surprised if it just pops up as some of the more minor characters have been known to do.

Also announced in last night's newsletter was the edition size for the regular edition of the 1:6 Stormtrooper.  It's set at 6,000 pieces and is slated for a December 2008 release.

Hasbro

Answers to another round of questions are rolling in to the various sites and, as usual, there are some interesting tidbits to be had.

I think this was confirmed before but, if it hasn't been it is now, that early 2009 will see a Magnaguard Starfighter.  Hopefully it'll look like the one seen in the new Clone Wars cartoon.  If it does, count me in.

JediDefender.com asked about SA Rebel Troopers and Hasbro responded with good news on at least one front; look to early 2009 for a new SA Hoth Rebel Trooper.  Now, if they get to that Rebel Fleet Trooper they mentioned for a possible 2010 release we'll be in really good shape.

Here's some interesting news on the AT-TE.  There have been a lot of reports that the middle legs tend to fall off very easily, more easily then designed.  Hasbro responded on more than one site yesterday that they have determined there is a problem and will be offering replacement legs through their Customer Service Department.  Look to Hasbro.com to reach Customer Service.  And hope this actually happens unlike the coin replacement they touted last year that never materialized.

Toys-R-Us

If you're interested in the Disturbance at Lars' Homestead Battle Pack you might want to start checking your local stores.  Reports are in that it's been found at retail in California.

According to initial impressions by Adam Pawlus over at GalacticHunter.com, this set may not quite be worth the $50 price tag.  But, check it out for yourself when you run across it.

The Clone Wars

We're just a month away from the television debut of Star Wars: The Clone Wars on Cartoon Network.  Friday, October 3rd at 9:00PM is the first episode of the new show so mark your calendar.  And while you wait, check out the new trailer.

Star Wars: The Force Unleahsed

Over the weekend the new novel by Sean Williams, "Star Wars: The Force Unleashed," topped the NY Times Best Seller list for hardcover fiction.

The novel is a companion to the LucasArts game which will be released on September 16th.  Look for the book at your local retailers or online at Amazon.com where it's currently on sale for $17.16.
