5-29-2010Hasbro
Earlier in the year Hasbro ran a program where you could send in receipts for buying role play items and receive free Saga Legends figures. Now they have a new promotion where, by spending $25 on eligible toys, you can get a free role play item. The choice of free items are a Duel Action Lightsaber or a Captain Rex Helmet. For a full list of eligible toys and the form you need to fill in, head over to Hasbro.com. The promotion runs from yesterday through July 31, 2010 with August 16, 2010 being the postmark deadline for your submission. Memorial Weekend SalesShopStarWars.com will be running a Memorial Day sale this weekend beginning at 12:01AM PST on Sunday and run till the end of the day on Monday. All in-stock items will receive a 10% discount at checkout. HasbroToyShop.com is running 50% off on select items from their Star Wars, G.I. Joe and Transformers lines until June 6th. 5-28-2010HasbroEntertainmentEarth.com posted a new pre-order for the Vintage Collection wave 2 figures yesterday and we now have our first glimpse of the new Darth Sidious figure we've been hearing about. Unfortunately, although the photo is small, I don't think this is exactly the Senate Duel version of the character that most collectors have been asking for.One good piece of news, the Sandtrooper included in the wave appears to be the new version that was packed in with the Walmart exclusive Dewback last year. At least he's sporting the new weapon from that pack, which is a good sign. The Magnaguard finally gets a soft goods cloak for the Saga version, the Clone Wars figure from earlier this year beat him to it. We'd already seen photos of the new General Grievous thanks to a Q&A response, and Obi-Wan and Anakin, which may have some tweaks or small updates, are mostly versions we've already seen. The rest of the wave includes Legacy Collection re-packs of Commander Cody and ROTS Clone Trooper and Wave 1 Han, Luke, Vader and Boba Fett. 5-27-2010Star Wars: The Clone WarsThe second season of Star Wars: The Clone Wars will be coming to DVD and Blu-ray on October 26th. Both releases will include all 22 episodes from the season. Special features include commentaries, a look at the Lucasfilm vault and a 64-page journal of concept designs and sketches. The Blu-ray set will add Jedi Temple Archives, which contains a "database of creative materials." Suggested retail for the DVD set is $44.98 while the Blu-ray is $59.99. Celebration V - Commitment ChapelHave you ever wanted to get married at an official Star Wars event by your favorite Star Wars character? Then you may be interested in the just-announced Commitment Chapel at Star Wars Celebration V. Unfortunately (or, maybe fortunately), this is all for fun. So don't worry, nobody is going to drink too much blue milk in the cantina and wake up married to a gundark. 5-26-2010Celebration V - AFX MaquetteAn update to the info we posted on Saturday about AFX offering a Han Solo maquette at Celebration V. The maquette is being advertised as having "300 units" at the convention. This is true, but the actual edition size of the maquette is 800 pieces. According to the AFX blog, the maquette is their Summer Tour exclusive and will debut at San Diego Comic-Con with 400 pieces being available, 300 at CV, and the final 100 via the AFX website. Celebration V - Collectors PanelsStarWarsCelebration.com announced the first four Collectors Panels today with two that are similar to previous Celebrations and two new ones.
Food Collectibles and Animation Collecting are similar to panels offered previously. While there have been trading card panels before, this one will be dedicated to all things Empire Strikes Back. The End of Star Wars Collecting is new and sounds like it may be an interesting look at when or if this huge collecting hobby of ours will come to an end. The article also reminds us that the Collectors Panels will have a giveaway again this year, but no details have been released on that as of this point. Celebration V - Autograph GuestsStarWars.com announced two more guests for Celebration V including Nick Gillard, who will be doing a presentation on the fighting styles he created for the Jedi in the prequel films. Gillard will also be signing autographs during the weekend. Joining Gillard will be Ray Park, one of the people that Nick worked with in The Phantom Menace to give us the excellent "Duel of the Fates" fight with Ewan McGregor (Obi-Wan) and Liam Neeson (Qui-Gon). LegoI thought we posted this when it was first announced a couple of months ago, but may have missed it. This October, DK Books will release "Star Wars Brickmaster" which is an instruction book that includes 240 bricks and two figures. The instructions in the book will allow you to build eight exclusive sets. Look for this at your favorite bookseller this Fall. 5-24-2010LegoIf you are in the market for new Lego sets, stop by Target this week. They are running a sale on many current Lego lines including Star Wars. Savings range from about $2 up to $18 on set 8039, Venator-Class Republic Attack Cruiser. Set 7749, Echo Base, is marked down to only $15 this week, which Target is advertising as their "lowest price of the season." KubrickMedicom Toy Exhibition '10 in June will see the carded release of Series 3 of their Star Wars Kubrick figures. The set of six will be carded together and is limited to 600 pieces. The set includes Lando Calrissian, Wicket Warrick, AT-AT Driver, Jawa, Han Solo in Carbonite and C-3PO. There are already some pre-orders on eBay but you may want to wait till these are actually released and in-hand auctions appear. 5-22-2010Celebration V ExclusivesA couple new companies have reported in with exclusives that they'll be offering at Celebration V in August.

This will be his second Celebration appearance and only his third convention. No firm date or time has been set but the official announcement is posted on StarWars.com. Star Wars: The Empire Strikes Back 30th Anniversary
Today is the official 30th Anniversary of the release of Star Wars: The Empire Strikes Back, the film still considered by many to be the best of the six film Star Wars saga, and my personal favorite as well. Empire tells an interesting story about our Rebel heroes on the run from the Imperials who are out for revenge for the defeat they suffered in Star Wars: A New Hope. From the opening search for Luke Skywalker, to the famous battle between Snowspeeder pilots and the AT-ATs, all the way to Dagobah and Cloud City, Empire continued all the action that we loved from the first film while also fleshing out the characters that we cared about. The screenplay written by Leigh Brackett and Lawrence Kasdan was expertly directed by Lawrence Kasdan. All of our favorite actors were back, including Harrison Ford, Mark Hamill and Carrie Fisher, and they were joined by the suave Billy Dee Williams as Lando Calrissian. But Lando wasn't the only new character introduced in Empire, we also met Jedi Master Yoda and Boba Fett. Darth Vader's command to Fett, "No disintegrations," cemented him as one of the coolest characters from the saga, and Yoda's mischievous ways and odd speech patterns still influence pop culture today. And who can forget one of the ultimate 'I did not see that coming' moments in cinema history when Darth Vader revealed to a defeated Luke Skywalker that he was his father? Genius! This summer, fans everywhere can celebrate the anniversary of Star Wars: The Empire Strikes Back online at the official site, at Star Wars Weekends at Disney, by watching Spike TV's Original Trilogy marathon on May 22nd or, best of all, by attending Star Wars Celebration V in Orlando, Florida. Happy Anniversary, Empire! Celebration VIn celebration of the anniversary of The Empire Strikes Back, we're also debuting our Celebration V event coverage. Leading up to Celebration V in August, this page will be a one stop collection of all the information about convention exclusives, seminars, autograph guests, artists and special events. Then, on August 10th, we'll begin our live coverage from Orlando, Florida where we plan on bringing you photos and video of as many activities as we can. We're less than three months away and excitement is starting to build! SideshowSideshow is celebrating the 30th Anniversary of The Empire Strikes Back with a contest and a preview of a new 2011 Yoda! The giveaway is for a life-size Darth Vader bust while Yoda will be in the 1:6 scale line. Check out the photos below of Yoda and then head over to Sideshow's website to view their Production Peek video and enter the contest to win a Darth Vader bust. Gentle GiantGentle Giant has posted two new Star Wars products for pre-order, both due on early 2011. First up is a Figrin D'an mini bust from his appearance in A New Hope. No edition size yet but he's available for $59.99 from Gentle Giant or you can probably save a few dollars by ordering with another e-tailer. The second item is a Bantha statue with Tusken Raider. The statue is 12" high by 18" long and runs $249.99 directly from GG. Acme ArchivesAcme Archives is running a one day sale in celebration of the 30th Anniversary of The Empire Strikes Back. For today only you can take 30% off your order with code ESB30 at checkout. Acme also debuted a new piece of art from Brian Rood called "Solo." It goes on sale today and will be available for the 30% discount. And, if you're an Athenaeum member, you can save an additional 5%. 5-19-2010HasbroYakFace.com posted new product listings over the weekend and they seem to clear up some info that we've had rumors about or was alluded to in one of the recent Q&A sessions. New items listed include a Clone Wars 4-pack of figures, Kit Fisto's Jedi Starfighter and Clone Wars Warriors and Droids Collection. Not sure yet what that last set is yet but it sounds like a Battle Pack. Also listed is a "Malevolence Collection" which is a set of 2-packs that each come with a DVD. Hasbro mentioned DVD pack-ins in a recent Q&A session and this may have been what they were talking about. The 2-packs include Obi-Wan & Grievous, Anakin & Clone Trooper and Ahsoka & Plo Koon. I'd assume that the DVDs will each be an episode from the Malevolence arc of the Clone Wars show. Head over to Yak Face for the full list which also happens to be broken out with tentative release dates, some of which aren't that far away. G.I. Joe ConventionDuring the G.I. Joe Convention this year there was a movie fest on Friday night. All of the submissions were from Club members and there were some very well done videos. Now, two of them can be seen on YouTube.com. The first video is titled "Dr. Jones: Toy Therapist" and is produced by Barry Kay of Not Your Average Joe Productions. The second video is by Regular Joes Entertainment, David Pisani and Tod Pleasant, and is called "40 Years of Adventure: The True Story of the Adventure Team." Both use well designed sets and several 1:6 action figures to tell funny and entertaining stories. Check them out! 5-18-2010HallmarkThe new Dream Book is out and Hallmark is showing off most of their 2010 Keepsake Ornaments. As usual, there are several Star Wars ornaments and this year they are celebrating the 30th Anniversary of The Empire Strikes Back. We had a sneak preview of these at the 2009 San Diego Comic-Con but now we have a better view with the Dream Book release. Not pictured is a Bespin Lando Calrissian which will release during the July preview and be a limited edition ornament like we've had the past several years. Both the Boba Fett with Han Carbonite and Clone Wars Yoda with Rex sets are minis according to the measurements and price. July 10-11, 2010 will be the ornament premiere week this year with the full range of Hallmark ornaments being released the weekend of October 9-10, 2010. HasbroHasbro released new images of the upcoming Vintage Collection figures from the first wave. Nothing new, these figures were shown off at Toy Fair in February but an official photo release means we're getting closer to the official release. Check out the gallery here. Hasbro Celebration V ContestYakFace.com posted a note directly from Hasbro that clears up some of the logistics behind the instant win Celebration V VIP contest. Apparently, Hasbro reps delivered new (technically old at this point) product to stores and there were winning tickets randomly inserted in ten of them. There will be non-winning product on shelves which have had stickers added to them. With only 10 winning tickets, we wish you luck in finding them. 5-13-2010Hasbro Celebration V Contest
