Topps

Is there a new Topps card set coming for the Clone Wars movie and TV show this fall?  According to the Topps blog on StarWars.com there is.

Previews has an order page up for the set with some additional information.  There will be both retail and hobby boxes available.  Both sets will have 90 cards with animation cell chase cards.  The hobby boxes will have foil-stamped parallels and sketch cards.  Seven cards per pack, 24 packs per box.

Hasbro

Be on the lookout for wave 3 of the Mighty Muggs.  I found Commander Cody at Target yesterday but it appears the rest of the wave sold out.

Target stock, locally, is really down.  They have four TAC figures and two Saga Legends figures along with five Saga Collection Moff Jerjerrod figures.  Maybe six total Comic packs, sold out of Titanium and Transformers, Evolutions and the only Battle Packs are the exclusive The Force Unleashed sets.

They did restock the vehicles last week and there are one each AT-AP and Grievous' Starfighter.  In other words, pegs are bare.

Wal-Mart is in better shape as far as the amount of stock they have, unfortunately it's nearly all Saga Legends figures, none of which are from the final wave.

The big push this week will be Indiana Jones figures which have a street date of May 1 (tomorrow).

Legacy of the Force

For a limited time, Del Rey is offering book one of the series, "Star Wars: Legacy of the Force: Betrayal" as a downloadable eBook, audio or as a PDF file.

You can log on to Del Rey's web site for the free download from now till May 13th.

Kubrick

Wave 8 of the Star Wars Kubricks started hitting this week and includes Episode 1 versions of:

  • Anakin
  • C-3PO
  • Qui-Gon
  • Queen Amidala
  • Darth Maul
  • Battle Droid

There are three chase figures included in this wave and they are Jar Jar, Saesee Tiin and Aurra Sing.  Saesee and Aurra are packed at a ratio of 1:96 or each is in every other master case.  Jar Jar is packed one per case.

Hasbro

Last Friday was Q&A day with the various web sites and Hasbro took the opportunity to acknowledge the new Millennium Falcon that will be coming in July.

Can we say we held back confirmation because we really couldn't believe it ourselves that it was happening, and didn't want to dash hopes if it somehow fell through? No? OK then, it is time to come clean.

As most people have seen by now, pictures did get leaked of what we were hoping would be the biggest secret we ever held onto - the massive, new 3-3/4" Millennium Falcon. We can confirm that it *is* real, and it *is* spectacular! Please trust us when we say that our intentions were truly in the right place - we wanted to surprise fans everywhere with the biggest secret we had ever tried to hold back leading up to the massive 7/26 launch date for Clone Wars/Legacy. We do expect the first availability to be 7/26 at the same time as everything else.

We have been working against a reveal plan, including a world debut in Wired Magazine (June issue, on sale in May!), followed by some very key celebrity reviews and additional exposure prior to the public debut at Comic Con. At least that was our intention...with something like this, as big as it is, and as intense the interest is in Star Wars, it proved impossible to hold. Look for additional details to roll out as per the schedule above, and look forward to the full public debut at Comic Con.

As for the Q&A itself, JediDefender.com asked about the "1st Day of Issue" promotion for July.  Per Hasbro the packaging is the only thing that's different.  The figures will have a foil stamp and logo and will only be available in the first wave of action figures that ship for the July 26th launch.

GalacticHunter.com gets the scoop that Stormtrooper versions of Luke and Han Solo should be out this fall as part of an ANH wave.

TheJawa.com raised the question about packaging of the droid parts in this Fall's Build-A-Droid assortments.  They wanted to know if figures from one case, carried over to a new case, will have the same droid part or if the part will be swapped for a new droid.  Per Hasbro, the parts will be swapped.  For example, the TLC wave 1 Luke Skywalker may come with a part for the R4-D6 astromech when he ships in that case assortment but if he's repacked into the wave 2 case he may then come with a part for the R7-T1 astromech.  That means that figures carried over through two or more cases may have two or more variations on what droid part they're packed with.  This is good news for those looking to build the droid figures but I'm sure a lot of completist collectors are groaning at the thought of tracking down multiple figures to get all the droid pack-in combinations.

Hasbro also expanded on the previous announcement of extra weapons shipping with the new Saga Legends line later this year.  Each figure will come with a cardboard weapons locker that contains 5 Clone weapons.  Every figure will have the same selection of weapons.  The locker will be similar to the cardboard crate holding the relics in the new Indiana Jones line of figures.

From SirStevesGuide.com we get confirmation of a new Republic Gunship, probably later this year.  Look for a new deco.

The final piece of info from Hasbro is that they are looking to keep their website more up to date and one feature will be a repository for the Q&A answers.  Hasbro will be posting the answers one week after they're sent out to the various web sites.

Asajj Ventress

Sideshow

Last night in their weekly newsletter, Sideshow announced that their next Star Wars Premium Format statue will be Asajj Ventress.

As with all announcements, no price or order date has been set yet.  The sneak peek photo looks pretty cool and the 1:6 scale figure was really nice so no reason to think this won't be top notch as well.

Gentle Giant

Keep an eye on Yodasnews.com today as they are reporting in from the New York Comic-Con.  Their first update of the day includes Gentle Giant news.  They're showing off the TIE Pilot bust that was announced the other day but new items for the Star Wars line are limited to a bronze Yoda statue and a bronze Obi-Wan Kenobi head based on Sir Alec Guinness.

Gentle Giant

YodasNews.com has the scoop on an upcoming mini bust from Gentle Giant; TIE Fighter Pilot!  According to YN.com the bust will be out later this year and that one in every six busts will be a chase version.  No word on edition size yet.

Hasbro

Rancor

Hasbro and Lucasfilm are pushing the new The Force Unleashed game pretty hard and with the release date now set for September 16th, it's not really that far off now.

Hasbro's wave of TFU figures is in stores now and Target has had their exclusive Kashyyyk Battle Pack out for a couple of weeks.  But the promos don't stop there, look for Target to also have an exclusive Rancor Battle Pack.  Word on the street is that it should be out in April and while it hasn't shown up yet, Hasbro.com has updated with an article about it.  Head over and check it out along with a couple of photos.

Lorne Peterson

Lorne Peterson

Last Friday, April 11th, I had the opportunity to attend a lecture by Lorne Peterson at the Franklin Institute in Philadelphia, PA.  The lecture was part of the Star Wars Where Science Meets Imagination exhibit which is on display until May 4th.

Mr. Peterson has worked for Industrial Light and Magic for over 30 years and has worked on all six Star Wars films as well as over 30 others during his career.

Along with the lecture, Mr. Peterson signed copies of his book, "Sculpting a Galaxy: Inside the Star Wars Model Shop."  Please read on for a re-cap of Mr. Peterson's lecture.

Hasbro

Sunday was the "official" release date for the Order 66 2-packs and while my store didn't put them out till Monday, they are now available.  I picked up Tsui Choi, Master Sev and the Anakin packs for the Jedi figures more than the Clone Troopers.  All three figures are really well done and I'm happy to have them.

I'm especially impressed with the Anakin figure since it's a minor update to the 2007 TAC-33 Anakin figure.

The figures were stocked on an end cap along with some Transformer figures and three exclusive GI Joe vehicles.  Apparently these are shipping once to stores and then they're done so get out and pick them up if you're interested.  They may not make clearance like they did last year.

Hasbro

Wholly crap.  That about sums up my thoughts when GalacticHunter.com scooped everyone last night with a photo of the huge new Millennium Falcon that Hasbro won't confirm for later this year.

This has been rumored for a couple of months as coming later this year in the $150 range but Hasbro denied all knowledge of it a couple weeks ago in a Q&A session.  But, if the photos are any indication, this thing is coming, eventually, and it's going to be big.

It looks like the cockpit will hold 4 figures, there's sound and lights and even at least one room you can't see in the photo.  Head over to GH.com and check out the photo.  And click on it to see an even larger, hi-rez version.

Indiana Jones

Acme Archives

I'm not going to make a big habit out of posting Indiana Jones information but I'm a fan of the Character Keys that Acme has been putting out in the Star Wars line and they've carried the idea over to the IJ franchise.

The first key, Indiana Jones himself, went up for pre-order yesterday on CharacterKey.com for $35.00.  The edition size is 1,000 pieces and is estimated to ship in May.

Also shown on the site is an IndianaJonesShop.com exclusive Short Round Character Key that will be coming in the future.  The plate looks to have a 750 for the edition size but that hasn't been announced yet.

Hasbro

A follow-up on Friday's Q&A.  4-inches.de asked if there would be a Bothan in any of the upcoming comic 2-packs and Hasbro has confirmed that one is on tap and may be shown at San Diego Comic-Con later this year.  It's not mentioned specifically which character it will be but it won't be Master Hudorra from Republic #79 as that comic was already used for the Commander Keller set.

YakFace.com asked about the Stormtrooper Commander TFU figure that several web sites have shown photos of.  It's shown packaged on a TAC cardback but not numbered and no further details were released.  Per an answer last week, we will get that figure later this year as part of a promotion for The Force Unleashed.  My guess, it's either going to be released along with pre-orders for the game or it'll be an exclusive to gaming stores.  Similar to how the Battlefront Scout Trooper was released a couple years ago.  We'll see.

Hasbro

Not a lot of new info out from Hasbro in the latest round of Q&A but there was one cool bit stuck at the bottom of an otherwise forgettable question; the new Fall 2008 Saga Legends line will contain small packs of spare weapons.

That's kind of interesting and a way to get some additional rifles (hopefully) for all the Clone Troopers that have only shipped with the DC-15 blasters.  I wouldn't be upset if they also threw in some generic lightsabers so we could equip custom Jedi figures or even hilts for some of the figures that have shipped only with lit sabers yet have spots on their belts for the unlit equivalent.  Of course, then we'll have to buy a bunch of figures we otherwise wouldn't have.

One of the most asked about figures is the Death Star II Luke Jedi figure.  Per Hasbro in this week's Q&A, look for him in the ROTJ wave in Spring 2009.

And on a side note; Stop asking about playsets!  I don't care what clever way you come up with for asking, for now the answer is always going to be "no."

Happy Birthday

Happy Birthday to CreatureCantina.com.  They've been bringing the funny for 7 years now.

Asajj & Tol Skorr

Hasbro

Hasbro.com has new photos up of the Tol Skorr and Asajj Ventress comic 2-pack as well as Anakin and Durge.

The Asajj/Skorr set comes with the "Republic" #69 comic while Anakin/Durge comes with "Obsession" #3.

The Asajj and Tol Skorr figures both look awesome. That's definitely a pack I'll be picking up when it hits stores later this year.  While the Anakin figure in the second set isn't bad, the Durge looks to be top notch.

The Force Unleashed

It's been pushed back a couple of times but the new LucasArts game, The Force Unleashed, now has a new release date, September 16, 2008.

To kick off the announcement, special programming events will be played during the Spike TV marathon of the Star Wars movies playing this weekend. Check the announcement on StarWars.com for times.

Hasbro Play Rewards

Tomorrow is the deadline to have your submission form postmarked to receive your Hasbro Play Rewards.  If you haven't gotten your receipts together yet, better get busy.

Franklin Institute

If you haven't gotten to the Franklin Institute for the Star Wars: Where Science Meets Imagination exhibition yet there are two dates that might be fun.

The first is Friday, April 11th as Lorne Peterson will be presenting a lecture.

Lorne Peterson - Sculpting a Galaxy: Inside the Star Wars Model Shop.
Friday, April 11th

Lorne Peterson, visual effects artist for the entire Star Wars saga as well as many other films, including Indiana Jones, Men in Black and ET – gives an inside look at the science and secrets behind the artful models and sculptures of the Star Wars saga. Peterson uses everyday items to demonstrate the important role both chemistry and physics play in creating the amazing visual effects seen on screen. Book signing to follow of Sculpting a Galaxy: Inside the Star Wars Model Shop.

7:30pm lecture & demonstration in Franklin Theater, 8:30pm book signing in Planetarium Hall.

Admission is $5.00. Free for members and those with evening of Star Wars tickets. Please call 214.448.1254 for advance reservations.

The second is Thursday, April 24th when the PSWCS will be holding a presentation at the FI.  The presentation should be about Star Wars collectibles as well as the club and the events that we hold around Pennsylvania.

Both events should be a blast but also keep your eye on the Franklin Institute Special Events page.  And remember, the Star Wars exhibit is there till May 3rd.

Titanium

Hasbro updated their web site last week and showed off some of the new Titanium vehicles that we can look forward to this year.  Included are a new Obi-Wan Kenobi Starfighter with Hyperspace ring, Bongo and Sebulba's Podracer.

It's nice to see some new sculpts coming this year rather than a ton more repaints.

4-2-2008

Spike

If you haven't watched the Star Wars saga in a while then starting this weekend why not catch it on TV?  Spike Network will be showing all six films in the Saga over the next two weekends.

Starting Friday, April 4th catch Episode I The Phantom Menace followed by Attack of the Clones on Saturday and Revenge of the Sith on Sunday.

The following weekend, beginning on the 11th, catch the Original Trilogy consecutively on Friday, Saturday and Sunday.
