Hasbro

Last week Hasbro was wrapping up from Toy Fair and, as such, they skipped Friday which was a scheduled Q&A day.  But fear not, they answered the questions that were due and there were some interesting pieces of info.

First up, JediDefender.com asked if there was any new info on Willrow Hood and, surprisingly, there is!  All the fans of "Ice Cream Maker Guy" can now look forward to seeing this figure made in an ESB wave in 2009.

Both JediTempleArchives.com and Jedinews.co.uk recently asked Hasbro about the new FX lightsabers.  In their answer to a JediNews Q&A question Hasbro stated that we can look forward to re-releases of the MR sabers later this year with any newly produced lightsabers coming in 2009.

Also for 2009 we can look forward to an Episode 1 wave of figures.  Since neither 2007 nor 2008 will have any Episode 1 figures (Well, with the exception of the Evolutions Qui-Gon, perhaps) this is very good news.  Specifically mentioned as a possibility are Pod Racers.  I'm crossing my fingers for that super articulated everything-including-the-kitchen-sink Obi-Wan Kenobi!

Gentle Giant

GG sent an email update last night on the release of the holographic Darth Maul Mini Bust.  This bust was an exclusive to the Star Wars: The Exhibition - Brussels.  It's limited to 2,500 pieces but GG has set aside 1,000 pieces for their web site.

Premier Guild members can now log in to their account on GentleGiantLtd.com and order this bust for $55.00.  Ordering will be open for one week for PG members and if any are left they will go on sale to the rest of the GG Collector's Club members.

Sideshow

This week Sideshow is running a set of auctions for the Diane Kamahele Memorial Auction.  They have several special items including a bronze version of the "Duel of the Fates" diorama.  Check out Sideshow's website for details on the charity and items and then head to Ebay if you would like to bid.

Acme Archives

Morly from Acme Archives posted last night that they will be at Wizard World L.A. in March.  They're at booth 309 so if you're going to the show, stop and see them.  They have no planned exclusives for the show but they should have a ton of awesome art from Star Wars and other media to choose from.

Franklin Institute

I still owe you all an article and photos on the Star Wars display at the FI from the trip way back on February 9th.  Coming down with the flu basically the day after that trip and being sick for two weeks really put a hold on things.  I promise to have it up soon, probably Friday or Saturday.

Sideshow

General Obi-Wan Kenobi is now up for pre-order.  The exclusive edition is limited to 1,500 pieces and, as we guessed, is both $89.99 and light on accessories.  He's only coming with a lightsaber hilt and an ignited saber.  The exclusive piece is the holo of Captain Rex.

Head over to Sideshowtoy.com to put in your order if you're interested in this piece.

Sideshow

Don't forget that today at 1:00PM EST the new General Obi-Wan Kenobi figure will go on sale.  The estimated price for the figure is about $90 and the exclusive is a holograph of Captain Rex.  I don't expect there to be very many, if any, accessories beyond Rex and the lightsaber, probably with lit and unlit versions.

Sideshow also released the edition size for the ANH Luke Skywalker figure.  The exclusive version is limited to 1,977 pieces while the regular edition is the most limited 1:6 figure yet at only 2,500 pieces.

That seems awfully small and I'm wondering if the soft secondary market prices have forced Sideshow to correct their edition sizes.  Some of the more recent releases have been more expensive and have taken a decent amount of time to sell out on Sideshow's site.  I think that the market for these figures has tightened up.  It'll be interesting to see the edition sizes on the Obi-Wan figure.

Windlass Studios

Windlass Studios, a sister company to Atlanta Cutlery and Museum Replicas Ltd., has obtained a Star Wars license to produce replica clothing and armor from the movies and upcoming Clone Wars television show.

The line will debut this spring while armored characters will debut later in the summer at San Diego Comic-Con.

Museum Replicas Ltd. has been well known for years in the costuming world associated with fantasy and historical costumes.  I've also done a lot of business with Atlanta Cutlery over the past 20 years and they always have offered top notch knives and accessories.  From the press release, it sounds as if we can expect some very cool things from Windlass Studios in the coming years.

Hasbro

I found the new Pit Droids from the Saga Legends line at Wal-Mart last night.  These were on the shelf with several other 2007 SL figures all with the Captain Rex offer on the bubble.  They rang up at $6.63.  Luckily I was able to find all three paint variants of the Pit Droids so I bought them all.

Word is also in that the The Force Unleashed wave 2 of 2008 TAC figures have been found at retail.  This wave will be the last one till we see the launch of the Legacy Collection in July along with the Clone Wars.

Hopefully that'll mean that wave 1 and 2 will ship through the spring and early summer and nothing will be hard to find.  Not sure if the other wave of Saga Legends figures, with the final 5 Fans' Choice figures in it, is shipping yet.  They didn't seem to be on the shelf at WM last night nor was the new 501st Trooper.  The last Sandtrooper variant was, however.

Toy Fair Overview

Toy Fair isn't over for another day or so but most of the info relating to the Star Wars lines has been put out from the various license holders.  Hasbro had a huge list of things that they showed off and all of the info that I could find and document is now in the new 2008 Checklist.

One thing not covered there is that fact that, yes, there will be a decent gap in product between The Force Unleashed and the start of the Clone Wars and Legacy Collections in July.  Look for that last Saga Legends wave to fill the gap and hope that stores order in enough of the two waves of 2008 TAC figures, including the TFU wave 2.

Besides Hasbro, what can we expect from the other companies?

Gentle Giant

GG posted a list of exclusive Star Wars items for the year and they include:

  • San Diego Comic-Con - ROTS Anakin Skywalker mini bust
  • San Diego Comic-Con - Scout Trooper on Speeder Bike Kustomz
  • GentleGiantLtd.com - Obi-Wan in Clone armor mini bust
  • Premier Guild Gift - AOTC Clone Trooper Lieutenant Classics Bust
  • Belgium/GGLtd.com - Holographic Darth Maul mini bust
  • RebelScum.com - Lt. Renz mini bust

Besides that they are still showing the R2-D2 statue that was postponed from December.  New items include animated maquettes of Obi-Wan from ANH and Darth Maul which will join the Palpatine statue announced last year.

GG also scored the right to sell and make new scaled helmets in the Riddell style.  This allows them to pick up where Master Replicas left off when their license expired at the end of 2007.

The Clone Wars cartoon will have representation from GG although nothing was previewed or even hinted at during Toy Fair.

The next wave of Classics was shown off and a new Jawa Kustomz was on display over the weekend as well.  I didn't see any photos of Bust-Ups and word is they are being worked on as GG's idea for this year didn't fly.  Probably due to the fact that they were getting closer to being action figures and Hasbro has the corner on that particular market.

A new chess set was on hand as were the Cubby dolls and the Tomy helmets which GG has been importing from Japan.

Sideshow

Sideshow has already shown the General Obi-Wan in armor figure which will be up for sale this Friday, for an estimated $90.  Nothing else has been announced but Sideshow usually keeps things rather close to the vest.

Their biggest announcement was the new Prometheus and Armor bodies.  The Prometheus adds new articulation and some smoother joint transitions.  The Armor body is slimmer and is designed to fit under armor better without making the figure look overly bulky.

The Armor body was developed with Hot Toys while the Prometheus body was designed by the Sideshow team.  Obi-Wan and Indy take advantage of the new Armor and Prometheus bodies respectively.  That might be part of the reason these figures took a jump to the $90 price range.

Acme Archives

The new Han Solo key went up for sale last week and there was an announcement that the final Clone Wars key is finished and in waiting.  Other than that, Acme gave away two lithographs at Hasbro this past weekend, one for Clone Wars and the other for Indiana Jones.

We should be looking forward to more Sketchplates but there's been no further word on the cross section art that they showed off at San Diego Comic-Con last July.

Kotobukiya

Koto is moving forward on their Empire Strikes Back Bounty Hunter line which also includes a Darth Vader Build-A-Figure.  They showed off some artwork for their new TIE Pilot although I'm sure I've seen a photo of an actual model somewhere.

The X-Wing diorama which, I believe, debuted at Celebration IV last year was at the show as was the Obi-Wan vs. Grievous set.  Koto moves forward on their own schedule but they're usually worth keeping an eye on.

Lego

Most of Lego's offerings for the year were shown off at the British Toy Fair earlier this year but they never disappoint.  There are a lot of sets that have already hit toy shelves for 2008 including some of the new The Force Unleashed vehicles.

Coming this August, look for these to be on shelf:

  • 7673 MagnaGuard Starfighter
  • 7674 V-10 Torrent
  • 7675 AT-TE Walker
  • 7676 Republic Gunship.

The new Republic Gunship is looking very well done as is the new AT-TE.  And I'm also happy that they're continuing to offer some nice sets at the lower price range of $9.99 with their army builder sets.

Funko

The Funko Wacky Wobblers have finally made their way to retail, at least at Target, and they are kind of a fun collectible.  They showed off some items at Toy Fair but they're sticking with the main characters from the Saga more than anything else.  One of the cooler new items was Vader sitting in his TIE Fighter.  The Family Guy Blue Harvest pieces that are coming are also fun, which, as their name implies, is the company goal.  It's one of the more quirky yet, oddly, not over the top sections of the collecting hobby.

Diamond Select Toys

As we announced the other day, DST now has a license to produce Star Wars items and will kick off their offerings in the 1:4 and 1:3 scale this year.  They also have a line of banks in the works.

While RebelScum.com showed a photo of an ANH Obi-Wan, we haven't seen any other pictures of finished product so far.  There were photos of the 1:4 scale body floating around to show off the articulation and it doesn't look that bad.  I can't help but think that competing with Sideshow and Hasbro is not the best idea, however.

The 1:4 figures, about 18" tall, should have sounds and cloth outfits to go with the articulated body for about $75 while the 1:3 scale figures are rotocast with limited to no articulation.  Look to August for these.

Sideshow

Two big announcements from Sideshow today, first up is the pre-order for the new Medicom Real Action Hero Clone Trooper from Attack of the Clones.  As with the other RAH figures, this one comes in at $149.99 and is estimated to ship in the 3rd quarter of this year.

Bigger news, however, is the announcement if Sideshow's first armored figure, General Obi-Wan Kenobi!

He goes up for sale this coming Friday, February 22nd, at 1:00PM EST.  Sideshow has several preview photos on their web site now and the figure looks pretty well done.  The exclusive piece will be a hologram of an ARC Trooper.

No price is listed but this should give us an indication of what we'll be paying for armored troops going forward.  Hopefully it won't push the envelope much further than the recent Luke Skywalker figure did.

2-16-2008

Toy Fair

Info is starting to roll in from Toy Fair already and some of the early news is, well, odd.

Diamond Select Toys

Diamond Select Toys has been awarded a license to produce 1:4 scale articulated figures and 1:3 scale rotocast vinyl figures along with banks and other items.

The bank and rotocast figures sound like they're getting into the realm of what Applause was doing back in the Episode I days but 1:3 seems to be rather large.  I'm wondering if that scale is wrong.  Either way, with Sideshow doing 1:4 scale Premium Format figures it's an puzzler why DST would get into that scale.  I'm worried that we're looking at another case of diluting the market.

Revell

Looks like some of the Revell model kits reported on during the UK Toy Fair may be coming to the US.  It's being reported that Target and other hobby shops will carry the two Jedi Starfighters that are already out along with the Millennium Falcon, Droid Tri-fighter and AT-RT.  Also mentioned are an ARC-170, X-Wing and Imperial Shuttle.

Crossing fingers for that Republic Gunship shown in the UK.

Hasbro

Some of the rumor lists are coming true!  There are two new lines in the fall, Clone Wars and The Legacy Collection.  The Clone Wars line will be animated style and the first figures shown include:

  • Anakin Skywalker
  • Yoda
  • Obi-Wan w/ Clone Armor
  • Clone Trooper
  • Captain Rex
  • Battle Droid
  • General Grievous
  • R2-D2

The Legacy Collection kicks off with an Return of the Jedi themed wave.  Each figure will include parts that, when assembled, will build two Astromech Droids.  The wave includes:

  • Yarna D'al Gargan
  • Han Solo
  • Luke Skywalker
  • Chewbacca
  • Ewok & Baby
  • Bane Malar
  • Darth Vader
  • Ak-Rev

Plenty of Comic 2-packs are being shown and will include some fan favorites such as Thrawn, Cade Skywalker and Darth Talon from the Legacy series, Hoth Leia, Prince Xizor and Fenn Shysa.

Evolutions sets now confirmed with photos include a Padme set and Rebel Pilots.

The AT-TE is shown as is a Spider Homing Droid.  A new Battle Pack is shown with a Hoth focus and includes Han, Chewy, two droids and a Probe Droid.  Along with the already announced Hoth Battle Packs and Hoth Leia showing in the Comic packs this is shaping up to be a good year for ESB fans.

Acme Archives

Acme just announced that their next Character Key is Han Solo.

Limited to 1,000 pieces and 2 per customer, it's for sale now on Characterkey.com.  It's $35 and is scheduled to ship the week of March 17th.

Still no word yet on that final Clone Wars piece although it's apparently done and should be out some time this year.

Hasbro

Hasbro put out several more press releases yesterday with each one covering the various toy lines with more detail than the one I posted the link to yesterday.  Here are some highlights.

Role Play

The new Clone Trooper helmet will retail for $29.99 and will be joined by the Star Wars: The Clone Wars Ultimate Lightsaber for $34.99.  It appears that this will be similar to the Ultimate Lightsaber that was available previously.  It will allow you to build your own custom lightsaber.

Although it's already out in many stores, the The Force Unleashed Deluxe Lightsaber will still ring in at $19.99.

Action Figures

The Clone Wars basic action figure line will kick off on July 26 and should include 28 figures in 2008.  The press release states that the figures will all include an action feature but reports from various web sites have implied that this will be limited to accessories and not the actual figures.  Just one more thing we'll have to wait till Toy Fair to confirm.

Running parallel to the Clone Wars line of figures will be the "Star Wars 3.75-inch Basic Figures Droid Factory" line.  They will also debut on July 26th and we're scheduled to see 30 figures by year's end.  Each figure will include a droid part that can be used to build seven unique droids.  JediDefender.com reports that the droids will be Astromech and Protocol Droids but the Hasbro press release doesn't seem to specify.

The new retail price for both figure lines is listed at $7.99 which is a dollar jump over current prices.  As a quick fact check, the previous two pre-Toy Fair press releases of this type showed the basic action figures at $6.99 and that's what we've been paying at most Target and Toys-R-Us stores.

The AT-TE is listed as being available on July 26th and has an estimated retail price of $99.99.  According to the press release the AT-TE will be two feet long, hold 20 figures and have "galactic sounds" and firing features.  Going back to the JD report, the electronic features will include both lights and sounds and motorized troop deployment doors.  I'm liking this better and better.

Misc.

The Transformers will continue through the year with 18 figures coming and should still run $14.99.  Although not specified, I'm sure some (most?) of these will be re-paints.  We've already had reports that the Republic Gunship will be coming back with the Clone Wars shark deco, for example.

Mighty Muggs are shipping now and according to Hasbro we can expect 22 figures this year.  The price on these is $9.99.

There are plenty of other figures coming this year that aren't specifically mentioned.  Not the least of which are the last one or two waves of Saga Legends figures, which are starting to hit now, as well as the Evolutions sets and the comic 2-packs.  There will also be Battle Packs and vehicles in the $20 Starfighter line as well.

Then we have exclusives which we'll have to wait on to find out about.  We should hear more about those in the coming weeks, especially if they'll be releasing in July with the Clone Wars and Droid Factory lines.  Then of course we have San Diego Comic-Con to look forward to when we'll start to hear news about Christmas exclusives.

Toy Fair should have some interesting surprises for us this weekend.

Sideshow

Sideshow will not be at Toy Fair in New York City this weekend.  Instead they will be hosting a Toy Fair event on their web site which should include new product announcements and updates on recently announced items.

One update we got last night was an announcement of the edition size of the Palpatine 2-pack.  The exclusive version is limited to 2,000 pieces but the regular release is only going to be 3,000.

That's not quite as limited as the new Han Solo, which only has a total size of 4,977, but it's showing a new trend towards smaller edition sizes.

2-14-2008

Lots of stuff to get to this week.  First up, I have all my photos from the Franklin Institutes Star Wars exhibit but haven't had time to write it all up yet.  Unfortunately I came down with the flu this week and I've been worthless.  So, look for that tomorrow or Friday.  We also have Toy Fair coming up this weekend so lots of stuff to look forward to.  Now, let's catch up on some stuff.

Hasbro

Hasbro has a new press release out talking about some of the plans for their lines of toys this year.  There's some good info on there about what we can look forward to with the Marvel movies The Incredible Hulk and Iron Man

There's also some info on Indian Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull including a sound FX whip and something called "Indy's Ultimate Adventure Playset.  Coupled with the figures that we saw at San Diego Comic-Con last year the Indy line looks to be shaping up nicely.

On the Star Wars front the press release mentions the AT-TE with an estimated retail price of $99.99.  They're also pushing the Clone Trooper Helmet which should retail for $29.99.

There is also some good info on Transformers and Spider-Man in the press release.

Clone Wars

It's now official, "The Clone Wars" will kick off with an August 15, 2008 theatrical debut and then come back in the fall with weekly half hour episodes on Cartoon Network.

2-10-2008

Hasbro

4-inches.de posted information about a new Target Battle Pack coming this year.  It's called Attack on Kashyyyk and should include Darth Vader, two Stormtroopers and two Wookiee Warriors.  The Wookiees are re-paints of the sneak preview figures from 2005.

The info, and part of a photo, come from CaseFresh.com.  From the photo it looks like the pack will be tagged with a The Force Unleashed sticker so may be released in conjunction with that promotion.

Gentle Giant

It's been rumored for months that GG was working on an Obi-Wan Kenobi in Clone Trooper armor mini bust to appease collectors who had purchased the Obi-Wan statue.  Due to a change in the final look of that statue, many were disappointed in the likeness to Ewan McGregor and GG has said they'd do something to make it right, by both collectors and the retail partners who lost many pre-orders over the fallout.

The bust will be limited to 5,000 pieces with 2,500 set aside for those that purchased the statue.  They will be able to buy a bust for $25.

The remaining 2,500 will be sold via US and foreign retail partners and a small amount will be set aside for Gentle Giant to sell via their web site.  See the full press release below.

For many months rumors have been flying around with nothing able to be confirmed or denied about this mysterious piece….until now!

Gentle Giant is excited to announce the Obi-Wan Kenobi in Clone Trooper Armor Mini Bust, a companion piece to the similarly named statue released in January 2007.

We’ve taken one of the greatest Jedi Master’s out of the movies and transplanted him into an outfit he was only seen in, in the world of the animated Clone Wars series.  Obi-Wan Kenobi in Clone Trooper Armor Mini Bust has a total edition size of 5000 pieces and stands 6.5 inches tall and 7.5inches tall with lightsaber.

There will be multiple options collectors will be able to acquire Obi-Wan for their collections.

The first option is through Gentle Giant Ltd. directly.  Since this piece is a companion piece to the statue, 2500 pieces will be allocated for this purpose.  Anyone who has purchased the Obi-Wan in Clone Trooper Armor Statue can redeem through this method for purchase at $25, plus shipping/handling.  After the NY Toy Fair, we will be sending out en email and posting on our website with specific instruction and guidelines for redeeming through GentleGiantLtd.com.

The other 2500 pieces will be spilt between our domestic and international retailers and be sold at full retail price of $55.

GentleGiantLtd.com will also have a small quantity of the Obi-Wan mini bust available (of the additional 2500 pieces) to purchase for those who do not own the statue but would like to add it to their collection.  Retail price will apply to these purchases. Obi-Wan in Clone Trooper Armor mini bust will be ready to start shipping the first week of March.

AT-AT Driver

The tail end of 2007 and beginning of 2008 were very good as far at AT-AT Driver items go.  Within about a month's time we saw releases from Kotobukiya, Tomy and Wizards of the Coast.

WOTC

The new WOTC expansion set, The Force Unleashed, included an AT-AT Driver character.  He's number 30 of the 60 piece set and turned out quite well both as far as the figure is concerned and the art for the playing card.

Kotobukiya

Koto released series 4 of their Real Mask magnet collection just after the first of the year.  This wave included eight magnets including Zuckuss, IG-88, Nien Nunb, Darth Vader, Luke Skywalker, Figrin D'an, AT-AT Driver and a secret magnet of Admiral Ackbar.

The detailing that Koto puts into their line of magnets is quite impressive.  The colors are bright and vibrant and makes for a very cool display piece.  The Real Mask line is released in Japan and Asia but is normally available from on-line collectible stores.

Tomy

Another line of Japanese collectibles from Tomy is the Mini Helmet Collection.  This line is also being imported into the US by Gentle Giant.  Towards the end of 2007 Tomy released Part 2 of the helmet line which included six helmets plus two chase variants.

These include Boushh, Boba Fett, Biker Scout, Skiff Guard (Lando's mask), Imperial Gunner and the AT-AT Driver.  Replacing Boba Fett and the Biker Scout were helmets for Jango Fett and a Kashyyyk Trooper.

The helmets are in a roughly 1:6 scale and are quite detailed.  They include a stand with the Star Wars logo and some, like the Boba and Jango helmets, have moving parts.

The Japanese items always have great detail and accuracy and the Kotobukiya and Tomy AT-AT Driver items are no exception.  As for the WOTC Mini, he wasn't released alongside the AT-AT but was definitely worth the wait.

2-6-2008

Gentle Giant and AFX

If you ordered the exclusive Luke Skywalker in Stormtrooper armor maquette from ActionFigureExpress.com, good news, they're shipping.

Hasbro

According to some on-line sources Hasbro and Wizards will be releasing digital versions of some of their board games.  Details will be coming at Toy Fair barring any leaks.  I'm wondering if we'll see any of the previous Star Wars board games will get this upgrade?  We do already have a Star Wars Monopoly game, although it's several years old now.

Franklin Institute

The travelling exhibit, Star Wars: Where Science Meets Imagination, will be opening this weekend at the Franklin Institute in Philadelphia, PA.  The exhibit runs from February 9th till May 4th.

The PSWCS will be attending the opening day and we'll be covering the event so stop back Monday for photos and all the fun details from the weekend.

2-5-2008

Hasbro

StarWars.com updated last night with preview photos of the new 2008 Clone Wars card and packaging design.  All of the packaging will be sporting a predominately white  deco with the Clone Trooper helmet as a focal point, especially on the figure cardbacks.

According to the article, we can look forward to seeing this new line of figures on shelves starting July 26th.  That's about as close to a street date as I've seen on any line.  Possible midnight madness?

We'll see.  But, one thing about a release that early is that it could further the speculation (and Toy Fair UK leaks) that we will see a debut of Clone Wars episodes in August, possibly as a theatrical release to really get things rolling.

On the packaging design itself, I rather like the look of it.  Where I wasn't afraid for cardback integrity with the TAC figures, this new one appears to have several points of possible damage on the peg which could make some carded collectors unhappy.

Seeing the picture of Anakin in the example also is another clue that just maybe we'll see a more animated style of figures for this line.  I'm hoping we do, just to keep the shows aesthetic alive.  I'll miss the Cartoon Network show and the figures based on that animation, but I think this could be a suitable substitute.

Hyperspace

While you're over at StarWars.com checking out the new info on the Clone Wars line, make sure to spin by the article announcing the new 2008 Hyperspace Membership Kits.

Sounds like most of the swag will be your standard fare but the patch and Dark Horse comic may be fun.  You can never have too many Star Wars patches

Gentle Giant

GG updated their blog last night with edition sizes for the Aayla Secura and Shaak Ti mini buts.  Aayla will have a run of 4,250 while Shaak Ti comes in at an even 4,000.  I updated the Gentle Giant Checklist with that info.

2-2-2008

Hasbro

Clone Wars

Huge news out of Hasbro last night; the wave 3 Clone Wars figures that we just saw photos of a couple of days ago have been postponed until Fall.  In their announcement Hasbro states that they will be folded into their plans for Fall and that all the figures will be released.

They will also be pushing the comic 2-packs of Durge and Anakin and Asajj and Tol Skorr.

This means that there will only be two waves of 30th Anniversary Collection figures including wave 1 which is hitting now and The Force Unleashed wave which is scheduled for March.

I'm guessing that the launch for the Clone Wars line this fall is tying things up and is going to be huge for Lucasfilm and Hasbro this Fall.  They probably need the time to get production and retail in synch for the event.

Q&A

Yesterday was also a Q&A day and there is some good info out.

RebelScum.com reports that we will see Titanium versions of the Cloud Car, V-19 Torrent Starfighter, TIE Defender and Rebel Transport this year.

JediDefender.com asked about the silver EU coin that Hasbro announced for the Saga Legends line this year.  Hasbro now says there won't be a silver version.  There will be two "shadow" coins included with the Shadow Troopers and the same gold coin that came with the Dark Trooper will be included with the Covert Ops Trooper.

An interesting "hypothetical" question from JD.com about a B-Wing and probability of a human pilot vs. a Sullustan.  Hasbro's also "hypothetical" answer claims there would be specific reasons for them not to do a Sullustan.  My guess, it probably has to do with the all-but-confirmed Rebellion Pilots Evolution set 1 which is rumored to contain Ten Numb who a Sullustan.

Sandtroopers.com asked about upcoming R2-D2 figures and if we'd see one based on the R4-G9 body.  Hasbro said we can look forward to R2 using that sculpt but that it won't be a single carded release.  Battle Pack or vehicle, anyone?

HasbroToyShop.com

The wait is almost over for the AT-AP and Grievous' Starfighter.  HasbroToyShop.com is listing them both as in stock and now shipping.

2-1-2008

UK Toy Fair 2008

The UK Toy Fair is in full swing this weekend and while a lot of details about Hasbro product probably won't be known until the US Toy Fair in a couple weeks, there is some news out on other license holders.

Lego

I'll start with Lego because they seem to have a lot of cool toys coming this year.  One of the coolest, but I'm biased on this, is the new Republic Gunship (7676).  It will ship with minifigs of Obi-Wan, Plo Koon, Commander Cody, Asajj Ventress and a Clone Trooper.  From the looks of the set they've added a lot of cool play features.

A new AT-TE (7675) is coming which will include Anakin, Ahsoka, Rotta, Rex a Clone Trooper and Battle Droid.  Ahsoka and Rotta, along with Rex, will be new characters in the upcoming Clone Wars cartoon debuting this fall.

We can also look forward to a MagnaGuard Starfighter (7673) with two MagnaGuard minifigs and a V-19 Torrent Starfighter (7674).

Cartamundi

Cartamundi will follow up their 2007 playing card releases with decks featuring Star Wars vehicles, quotes and females.  We can also look forward to Indiana Jones cards.

I didn't post when this first went up for sale but Cartamundi is currently offering a Star War themed poker set which features 200 translucent chips in green, red and blue.  When in the case they can be lit from behind by a series of LED lights that make them look like lightsabers.  Pretty cool if you have an extra $150 sitting around.

Misc.

Other miscellaneous items that we can expect to see this year are a new Top Trumps deck of cards featuring characters from The Clone Wars cartoon.

Revell will be adding to their easykit line of models with releases of the Falcon, Sith Infiltrator, Naboo Starfighter, Snowspeeder and a Republic Gunship and AOTC Jedi Starfighter.

Some of the items shown at the UK Toy Fair may not make it to the US.  The Revell kits, for example, don't seem to pop up over here very often.  Apparently Hasbro's display is only open to retail partners and not much info has leaked.  Per the Q&A with Hasbro they have said that they'd save a lot of the bigger announcements for the US Toy Fair which runs from February 17th - 20th.

Sideshow

Sideshow's life-size bust of Palpatine is now up for pre-order.  He's scheduled for a second quarter 2008 release and will set you back $499.99.

Head over to Sideshow's site to check out the awesome, if a bit creepy, photos and put your order in.
