Vintage Collection Information

The Vintage Collection

The Vintage Collection (TVC) launched in August 2010 and will run for approximately two years. All six Saga films and Expanded Universe will be represented in this line. The card backs for the Vintage Collection use classic Kenner designs with updated photography where needed.

The Vintage Collection only refers to those toys released in classic Kenner style packing. As of San Diego Comic-Con 2010 that includes all the basic action figures, Celebration V Zuckuss & 4-LOM exclusive, mail-away Rocket Firing Boba Fett and three exclusive vehicles (AT-AT, Snowspeeder and TIE Fighter).

General Checklist Information

The new 2010 packaging not using the Kenner style is being called "Shadows of the Dark Side" by Hasbro and includes an image of Captain Rex superimposed over a cloudy sky. The packaging has a predominantly blue and grey deco. All Saga toys, Clone Wars and Saga Legends will use this packaging with slight color queues to differentiate between Clone Wars and Saga Legends figures, similar to the 2010 red and white deco cards.

To streamline the checklists, the vehicles will be split between the Clone Wars and Vintage Collection checklists based on packaging references. Most vehicles will be included in the Clone Wars checklist.

The Saga Legends line of action figures will continue to have their own checklist, continuing the line started with the 30th Anniversary Collection.

2010 Wave Information

The 2010 Vintage Collection contained 37 figures, 27 of which were new or had updated tooling and/or paint applications. The other 10 were "greatest hits" and were re-packed figures appearing on classic Kenner style packaging for the first time. The first five waves of Vintage Collection figures (end of 2010 and first wave of 2011) were themed waves based on films. Beginning with the first wave of 2011, the waves were mixed, containing characters from all six films plus the Expanded Universe.

As of Celebration V, Hasbro changed the wave mix. The final wave of 2010 was Attack of the Clones Wave. The Phantom Menace wave, originally to be the final themed wave, was dissolved and scheduled to be released later into 2011 in the mixed waves.

2011 Wave Information

The wave numbering started over with Wave 1, which was a mixed repaint wave. As of Toy Fair, the line was scheduled for 35 new figures in the Vintage Collection. Beginning in fall, figures from deleted scenes for all six films would be introduced into the line.

Twelve figures would be released on Revenge of the Jedi card backs during 2011. The same figures were packed into an exclusive 12-pack for San Diego Comic-Con. There should be no differences between the figures released during the year and in the 12-pack.

The Phantom Menace figures were held back from 2011 and rescheduled for 2012 to coincide with the 3D theatrical release of the film.

Ultimate Galactic Hunt

With wave 2 of the 2010 Vintage Collection, Revenge of the Sith, the Ultimate Galactic Hunt returns. There are 12 figures packed on cardbacks with a foil racetrack and logo. The figures are identical to the regular carded figs. There are four scheduled wave 2 cases slated for release. Each of the first three will contain a similar mix of characters and each case will contain four of the 12 UGH figures.

Completists may be interested in the four foil cardbacks that Hasbro released during Celebration V. The four are Obi-Wan, Grievous, Anakin and Cody.

Revenge of the Jedi

San Diego Comic Con

The 2011 San Diego Comic-Con exclusive was a large box with Death Star graphics on the outside and included 14 action figures with Revenge of the Jedi card backs. Twelve of the figures were on regular cards while two were on mini cards. The retail price was $129.99 and a small allotment was sold online after the convention at HasbroToyShop.com.

Salacious Crumb and the Mouse Droid were exclusive to this pack with the other 12 figures being released to retail on both RETURN and REVENGE cards. The Revenge card backs were mixed in, similar to how Hasbro handled the Ultimate Galactic Hunt (UGH) chase figures in previous years.

Retail *

Starting in November, Hasbro released three case assortments that included the Return and Revenge carded figures. They were Wave 4, Wave 4 Revision 1 and Wave 5. The checklist above notes which figures came in which case and with which card back.

Revenge and Return characters did not ship in the save wave with both card back variants. For example, the B-Wing Pilot shipped on a Return card only in Wave 4 and only on a Revenge card in Wave 5.

It should also be noted that while Hasbro referred to these cases as waves 4, 4.1 and 5, retail stores such as Entertainment Earth used a sequential numbering system which made them waves 8, 8.1 and 9. Hasbro starts each new year by starting over their wave numbering while retail generally has counted up starting from the very first Vintage Collection release in 2010.

Variants

Boba Fett VC-09 was originally released on The Empire Strikes Back card using the 2008 Evolutions sculpt. The figure was changed to the 2004 VOTC figure and used the Return of the Jedi paint scheme. This same figure was released on the Return and Revenge cards both at retail and in the San Diego Comic-Con Death Star Set.

Rebel Commando VC-26 was released on a Revenge of the Jedi card at retail and in the San Diego Comic-Con Death Star Set and the figure was updated to a black man.

2010 - 2011 Mail-Away Program

2010 Rocket Firing Boba Fett Offer

Beginning with the launch of the Vintage Collection figures, Hasbro offered a mail-away Rocket Firing Boba Fett. This was a newly sculpted action figure designed in the same style as the vintage Kenner action figures and included a firing rocket, recreating the 30 year old mail-away offer that never happened.

The Rocket Firing Boba Fett offer ran from August 2010 till April 30, 2011. To redeem the offer, it required 5 UPC codes and $6.99 for shipping.

2011 - 2012 Mail-Away Program

Announced at the 2011 Toy Fair was a new promotion for a Boba Fett (Prototype Armor) figure. The carded action figure depicts Boba Fett in his white armor. Hasbro released an online form on September 1, 2011 and the promotion ran until March 31, 2012.

The original release of the form was worded to say that you could send in UPC codes from "any 5 figures" along with the form and $6.99 shipping. The term "all" rather than having a limit on certain assortments of figures seemed to cause confusion. After about a week of various websites and forum posters contacting Hasbro support for clarification, a revised form was released limiting the eligible UPC codes to those included with current Saga Legends (Asst 21115), Clone Wars (Asst 94736) and Vintage Collection (Asst 97568) figures. A few days later, after more contact with Hasbro support, the form was changed again with the sentence "Sample Only: In-Pack Form Required" superimposed over the form. Contacting Hasbro support backed up the wording, in that Hasbro would no longer accept printed forms from the website and only those packed in the figure bubbles would be valid.

Hasbro support did grandfather in printed forms that didn't have the "Sample Only" text on them. Reports varied on whether or not there was a cutoff mailing date for the printed forms to be accepted but as of this writing (10/24/2011), checks were still being cashed that had been sent in with the early forms.

UK residents were able to pick up Boba Fett at Toys-R-Us stores with the purchase of any 4 action figures. The promotion ran from October 29 - December 4, 2011. According to report from MouseDroid.com, dated October 11, 2011, the prototype Boba Fett figure would not be released in Australia.
