5-17-2012AT-STSandtroopers.com has been on a roll with new product looks and last night they scooped everyone with a new AT-ST coming to K-Mart. Packaged in the classic Kenner style as part of the Vintage Collection, the AT-ST is based on the new sculpt that was released as Walmart and then Target exclusives. Since this release is using Return of the Jedi packaging, it's an Endor version and looks to have deco to match. Head over to Sandtroopers for the photos and keep an eye on their site as they seem to be the go-to guys for new product reveals right now. Disney Droid FactoryIt's been a week since the new Droid Factory attraction opened at Tatooine Traders in Disney's Hollywood Studios, but we can't get enough and neither can Disney, apparently. Yesterday they posted a new video to their YouTube channel. Hosted by John, the video features Disney Parks toy designers Brad and Cody, and a couple other special guests. It's a fun video and really gives you a first hand look at the Droid Factory and all the parts available. 5-11-2012Gentle GiantGentle Giant announced three new releases (and a variant) last night that are sure to make some collectors very happy. First up we have not one but two versions of their new Jumbo Yoda; a regular release, with an orange snake, and a Premier Guild exclusive with a brown snake. Both are available now for pre-order at $75 each. Just a reminder, you have to be a PG member and logged in to see the exclusive version. The next two items are only shown in concept form but we're looking forward to a deluxe Ree Yees bust and a deluxe Clone Trooper statue. The Ree Yees bust is also $75 while the statue is $265. The Clone Trooper statue is listed as having "multiple interchangeable limbs and heads," he's pictured with a phase 1 helmet which places him in Attack of the Clones. We don't know yet if, besides the human portrait, if there will be a phase 3 helmet also available or if we'll see another statue somewhere down the line. No edition sizes have been announced and all four items are scheduled for a 4th quarter release. 5-10-2012Star Wars Celebration VI - Guest AnnouncementPeter Mayhew has been confirmed as an autograph guest for Star Wars Celebration VI this August. Joining him will be fan favorite, Tim Rose, who portrayed Admiral Ackbar. Trevor Butterfield, Nick Maley and Paul Springer will also be on hand to sign. We believe this is the first Celebration appearance for Butterfield, Maley and Springer. Butterfield played Lt. Blount in Return of the Jedi while Paul Springer, a puppeteer, played a Gamorrean Guard and Ree Yees. Mr. Maley was a make-up artist on The Empire Strikes Back and worked with Stuart Freeborn on Yoda. Read the full announcement on StarWars.com and keep an eye here and on StarWarsCelebration.com as we expect regular news updates as we're only 104 days away from the start of Celebration! Darth Maul ReturnsSandtroopers.com broke news last night of a new Target exclusive Battle Pack called Darth Maul Returns. The Clone Wars themed pack includes the armored version of Savage Opress, Darth Maul with his mechanical legs and a Nightsister. Initially they reported the Nightsister as Mother Talzin but the packaging doesn't refer to the figure that way and a few differences between the figure and the Clone Wars animated character were pointed out. Head over to Sandtroopers.com for the pictures and more information, like release dates. Disney Droid FactoryToday is the launch day for the new Droid Factory station in the Tatooine Traders store at Disney's Hollywood Studios park in Orlando, Florida. First rumored a month ago and just confirmed in the last week, it's exciting to see one of the most popular action figure themes come to life again, even if it's an exclusive. Here are some details on the droids.
It was also note that not all the parts were available for opening day and additional colors may be available later. There are also additional hats coming later in the year, including Yoda, Goofy, pirate and Indiana Jones-style fedora. Additional information and photos can be found on the Disney Parks Blog. 5-8-2012Celebration VI - ExclusiveOver on the MediumAtLarge.net website, Reed announced their first exclusive for Star Wars Celebration Vi: Commander Ganch. Produced by Sideshow, Commander Ganch is a 1:6 scale action figure that will be available in the Celebration Store along with about 70 other exclusives that will be on sale during the show. Commander Ganch comes with all of Sideshow's detailed armor and body suit and sports extra hands and boots along with four blasters and a character portrait and both Phase I and II helmets. As the commander of the 612th Attack Battalion, Ganch will also have a figure stand with his logo on it. No price or edition size has been mentioned yet. Carbon-Freeze MeBack when rumors of the Disney Build-a-Droid program were leaking out, another promotion for Star Wars Weekends was also mentioned; custom action figures that you could buy with your likeness on them. Now, StarWars.com has posted information about this program called Carbon-Freeze Me. Starting during Star Wars Weekends, on May 18th, you can reserve a spot to have your face scanned and your likeness will be added to an 8-inch tall figure frozen in carbonite, just like Han Solo from The Empire Strikes Back. To order one figure it will be $99.95 but additional figures can be ordered for $74.95. The package also includes a light-up wristband with the Imperial logo on it. OOM-9 is scheduled for a November release while Maul is expected a month earlier in October. 5-3-2012Gentle GiantGentle Giant updated their blog yesterday with new photos of the Jumbo Gamorrean Guard that is available to Premier Guild members for 2012. This comes on the heals of the prototype picture, shown yesterday, where you can see all the details of the sculpt. The blog post also extends the deadline for new Premier Guild members to choose their 2012 membership item. Originally you had to choose by May 1st to guarantee your pick but that has now been extended until June 1st. It's possible this is in response to concerns that no photos have been shown of the final sculpts for the Hobbit and two Star Wars mini busts.
