In 1999 Hasbro decided that some non-US markets needed different
figure offerings than the standard 3.75" figures with CommTech
Chips. The CommTech chips were translated into a few European
languages for release but cost saving measures led to the release of
the Bonus Battle Droid and Bonus Pit Droid sets in some countries.
In Asia an entirely different set of figures was released.
Consisting of eight carded characters, this set of Mini Figures
clocked in at about 2" tall. They were sold in various South
East Asia countries and Australia.
Besides the eight basic figures there was also a carded Naboo
Starfighter with Anakin and a Gift Set that was limited to 25,000
pieces. The Gift Set was sold in Australia at Toys-R-Us and
Big-W stores and was also available in some other Asian markets.
The figures are fairly decent representations of their larger
counterparts and make for a fun collectible to complement a US
collection.
