R2-D2 Builders Patch Everyone likes droids. Whether it's a torture droid in Jabba's dungeon or R2-D2, the real hero of the Star Wars saga, droids are a large part of the universe we love. Meet some of the dedicated fans who have constructed their own astromech and protocol droids over the years by visiting the R2-D2 Builders' Room at Celebration V. The R2-D2 Droid Builders, founded in 1999, have been a staple of Star Wars Celebration, displaying and demonstrating their droids and providing tips for others that may be interested in building their own astromech droids. Along with a room full of droids on display, builders also took their creations to the convention floor to entertain fans and compete in droid races. To help celebrate the 30th anniversary of The Empire Strikes Back, the Droid Builders also had several diorama pieces on display as well as backdrops for photo ops.
